The original story itself seemed so unusual that there was little surprise when Politico eventually retracted it: allegedly, Speaker of the House John Boehner was holding a golfing fundraiser, and they provided golf balls with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s face on them to play with.† The story, according to Boehner’s public relations staff, had no truth.
But that doesn’t mean some Republicans don’t like the idea.
Republican Rep. Louis Gohmert, according to the Washington Post, was recently on a conservative talk radio show where the story popped up, and Gohmert said it would likely help his game, and wondered where he could find some for himself.
LARSON: My producer is from Ohio. He noticed that John Boehner was apparently using Nancy Pelosi golf balls at a recent fundraiser, and my producer wants to get a whole sleeve of those things. He thinks it might make him hit better.
GOHMERT: [laughs] Iíll bet you itíll put a little extra oomph in it. No kidding, yeah. Well, Iíll have to check on that. Iíll have to see where we get those.
Of course, putting a woman’s face on a gold ball isn’t a new concept.† Last year, a set of balls with the faces of Tiger Wood’s alleged mistresses were flying off the shelf, despite the obvious tastelessness of hitting objects that are supposed to represent women.† As lawyer Gloria Allred said at the time, “hitting a woman or an image of a woman is not a sport.Ē
