Loading...White House Reporter Helen Thomas Abruptly Retires
Following her comments late last month that Israelis should “get the hell out of Palestine,” longtime White House reporter Helen Thomas has retired, according to Hearst News Service.
Thomas, 89, departs amid growing controversy surrounding the remarks she made in a May 27 video that has made its way around the circuits and back again. In the video (see below), Thomas suggests Israelis go to Germany, Poland or America.
Thomas and her unabashed reporting style have become steadfast fixtures in the White House press room. But Thomas was noticeably missing from this morning’s briefing. And when asked about her recent remarks, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs described them as “offensive and reprehensible.” Gibbs went on to say Thomas’ comments do not reflect the opinion of the administration.
The no nonsense journalist, who has covered the White House since the Kennedy Administration, issued an apology for her comments on her website last week.
“I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians,” wrote Thomas. “They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”

+ add your ownIts sad to see Helen Thomas was asked to leave from being the White House reporter because she speak her mind on the Israeli. It seems critisizing Israeli is taboo issue. Why is it so, are the Jews becoming god symbol these days? In spite of their arrogant and cruel personality seen in most of them. There must be something wrong with the society this days because fights would not continue if the fault on one side only. Talking too much is useless unless we have to use our brains as well to decide where the problem lies and why?
Her remark might be illegal under at least Israeli law, the Jewish people have a right to a homeland.
Although it is no longer viable for all Jews to go back to where they came from originally which is not Israel, I have to give it to Helen Thomas for having the fortitude to make a comment like that. It is always a political suicide for anyone in Washington DC to say anything against Israel. The pro Israel supporters and lobbies own and run that town and our foriegn policy. Unless we fix our election, campaign finance and political contribution laws, peace will not come to the Middle East easily. In fact, more future proxy wars on behalf of Israel are totally concievable at this time.
I was so angry at Helen for those comments she made about sending the Jews back to Poland and Germany. But I have to say, I respect her for apologizing and I think that was classy.
I am appalled by the slurs posted against Helen Thomas. Regardless of whether you agree with her or not, she has had a remarkable career. Her questions at White House press gatherings have angered, amused, befuddled, and focused many presidents and their press secretaries. I salute her persistent search for straightforward answers by her fearless questioning.
Good riddance to Helen Thomas. And to the idiots who apparently don't know the truth about the GAZA/Israeli story, Israel supplies water and over 70% of the electricity to the Palestinians in the strip, and allows ALL true humanitarian aid, medical, food, etc in. All the while, the Israelis are being injured and killed by the rockets and bombs sent over the LEGAL boundaries by the Palestinians. So you think the Israelis should be some kind of martyrs and let Iran ship in weapons to be used against them (the Israelis)? The Palestinians are a murderous bunch of thug terrorists who are already mooching off the goodwill of the Israelis. And Naomi K knows her history.

Maybe Helen Thomas should take up her advice and move back to Lebanon as that is where her family is originally from.
I don't think Poland or Germany would cherish the idea of having all the Jews move back there especially after after they stole and robbed all their property during the Holocaust.
By the way, Fred H. should get his facts right, the majority of Israel's Jewsih population is from North Africa and other Arab countries (Iraq, Iran and Yemen) so before he starts making stupid comments about the Jews not being Semites he should read up about Israel. Israel belonged to Jews before Moslems or Islam was even thought of. So if anyone has a right to live in their Homeland, it's the Jews.
Sad to say, but I have no clue who this woman is. I learn something new everday.

Mrs. Helen told the truth and it was her fair opinion and the white house send her out.
