Help Your Friends Get Ready for Election Day

By Jeanette Senecal, Senior Director of Elections, League of Women Voters

Election Day is less than a month away in most states. Millions of voters will participate in important state and local elections this year. We hope you’re planning to participate if there are elections in your area and hope you’ll encourage your loved ones to do the same.

Where will you be on Election Day?

If you’ll be away from your polling place due to travel, work, school or other reasons, you’ll need to take advantage of early voting (if offered in your state) or cast an absentee ballot to vote.

Now is the time to learn about early voting options in your state or request an absentee ballot if you or your loved ones won’t be able to vote in person on Election Day.

This Election Day–Tuesday, November 5–millions of voters will head to the polls and stand up for what matters most to our communities and our lives. These elections are about our jobs, our health, our communities and our future. We all need to weigh in.

The rules and deadlines for early and absentee voting vary depending on where you live, but VOTE411.org has all the information you need to make sure you, as well as your family and friends, are ready. Enter your address at VOTE411.org to build your personalized voting guide that includes up-to-date information you need to cast your ballot.

Election Day is your opportunity to support your community and have a say in our future. Voting allows you to have an impact on critical issues and policies, so if you or a loved one need to vote early or request an absentee ballot to vote this year, take action today.

Please share this vital election resource with your friends and family so that they, too, are prepared to vote, and join with your neighbors in voting in this election.

State and local are where it's at ... big government is broken through their infestation of power and greed. How can anyone set policy when they, themselves, are compromised by greed and power? No one should demand from others what they themselves can't give.

WE EACH have time to make up our minds about who we will hire to represent us. You own the stewardship of the country, use it, vote. If you don't stand for something, you fall for anything.

Don't fall for another's opinion or "information". Check it out for yourself ... get names of those up for election and/or reelection, see what they supposedly stand for, how their voting records back up their claims, AND ONLY THEN vote with purpose. Immediate and future generations will be shaped by the choices we make here -- powerful obligation.

Also believe in TERM LIMITS ... many of the dusty relics sitting in their Washington Bubble comfort zone, collecting and giving favors over the years need to be replaced.

Make sure you register. If this year is state and local elections, this is the time to start changing the RepublicanuséTeabagger hold on state and local positions!

My family votes. Loudly and Proudly. We encourage others to vote, even if it's not the side we want to win.

I myself am a candidate for a local office. I am a COMPLETE novice, having never run for office! I have knocked on 2, 547 doors so far. What disturbs me most is not when people hand me back my literature (indicating they're not going to vote for me) or give me a lecture that my party is the route of all evil, not even when they don't come to the door, though they're obviously home. What disturbs me most is when they say, I don't vote, it just doesn't count. I beg to differ! The last women who lost in my town, lost by 100 votes and in the scheme of things, that's not many. (FYI - we've only had 4 women on the town board since 1807). So, please, anyone reading this who is not registered, go register and GO VOTE. It does make a difference!
