In Colorado, Paul Ryan Finds Some Feminists

Normally campaign events are places where candidates go to glad-hand and chum the waters of their faithful for energy and votes. For Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Paul Ryan, campaign events have become something else.

At an event in Lakeland, Colorado Tuesday Ryan’s outdoor speech was met with a banner flown overhead that read “Hey girl, choose me, lose choice-P.Ryan”. The event was part of an online campaign designed to expose his horrific record on women’s issues, including choice. The campaign, Choose Ryan Lose Choice also has a tumblr page with plenty of pictures of an earnest-looking Ryan juxtaposed with affirmations of his policy, like “Hey girl, got birth control? Not for long.” and “Hey girl, you’ll love my choices for your body.” Brilliant.

In addition to the banner, the person “Fertilized Egg” was also admitted to the campaign event–an obvious and brilliant crack on Ryan’s support for the Sanctity of Human Life Act which defines fertilized eggs as humans, criminalizes contraception and outlaws abortion in all cases.

Ryan’s no stranger to campaign-stop protests though. On Monday a group of protesters interrupted his speech at the Iowa State Fair, accusing him of engaging in a “war on the middle class.” Before Romney tapped him for the ticket, in April a group of 76 protesters were arrested while staging a demonstration against Ryan’s plan to end Medicaid and perhaps most famously is the video of Ryan cracking a joke after a 71-year-old- man is pushed to the police and arrested after questioning Ryan’s policies at a town hall event.

These latest events show that the Ryan VP was energizing–just maybe not for the group the GOP hoped to engage.

great pick Romney. He surely energized your base. I hope ryan does not have a dog and sticks him on the roof so that you both will have more in common than the public outrage.Ann

I wonder was he looking for feminists so he could get them beaten up by some Joe Six Pack? The whole Mittens / Paul Ryan marriage is in the honeymoon period though judging by Ryan's stands on everything he is on a trip to Narnia rather than the Whitehouse. The vetting of Paul Ryan may of been less cavalier than John McCain's vetting of Sarah Palin which was more "mmm nice ass" because for a politician she is hot. In the street she's a standard Milf. Stand her next to 500-year-old John McCain and she's a Barely Legal covergirl. While half the electorate argued about her hardline stance on abortion, the other half was debating which position they'd do her in first. Not out loud, you understand, but in their heads. Or online. This is just a repeat of Sarah Palin without the obvious sexual undertones as Mitt is not gay in the slightest. The choice of Ryan is Ryan that has only a modest chance of going right and a huge chance of going horribly wrong. Given the most common reactions to Ryan ranged from gnawing apprehension to hair-on-fire anger that Romney has practically ceded the election. On the other side of the pond the British merely have had their impression of Mitt Romney is a wanker who has brought out another wanker.

If we let these Neo-Nazi/Facists get elected, we are truly doomed as a free nation. The USA will become a theocratical, ultraconservative, right -wing, dictatorship, with corporate money funding a government that exists solely for the perpetuation of more wealth for the rich. The military and law enforcement will be paid and controlled by the corp. money, and the working class will join the extremely poor, who will have no property and no rights, and will be slaves to the rich. This is what is happening, even though many cannot see it. It is in its early stages, just like what was happening when Hitler was coming to power. US citizens are being fed right-wing propaganda (lies) all the time through the right wing media. Wake up America!! help save our great nation, and EVERYONE, who thinks for themselves, by all means , make sure you get your new voter IDs where needed...get out and vote for Obama and an-all Democratic ticket in November 2012!! God Bless President Obama and the USA.

Sounds like the First Amendment is another set of rights Paul Ryan doesn't believe in. Disagree with him in person; get arrested!

Beverly those women believe the Republicans are protecting them. I don't understand it either but not all women have the same belief system. I always found it strange that women picketing abortion clinics have no problem going into that clinic to get an abortion and then go back to the picket line after.

Why is it that when you disagree with a Republican you're arrested but with a Democrat you're not?

Do not underestimate the danger of Paul Ryan. Ryan is a believer and zealot regarding his financial policies. He is also articulate, dedicated and hard working. He poses a real threat and with the voter suppression efforts in PA, FL, OH and MI to name but a few. The threat just may be realized.
