A while back my mum was a wedding planner at Clearwell Castle in England. She noticed over a few days that a ginger cat had started hanging around so she asked people in the village if it was theirs and it wasn’t. My mum and the groundsmen started feeding and petting the cat and it hung around but it was a mystery where it came from.
A week later my mum read the local newspaper (something she usually never does) and there was a story in there that an Irish woman had been visiting her daughter 8 miles away from the castle and had brought her cats with her. On bonfire night, the back door had been opened and fireworks went off outside and the cat bolted. She was completely distraught and never thought she would see her cat again and returned to Ireland.
Well my mum thought it was unlikely to be the same cat but contacted the woman and sent a picture and lo and behold it was her cat! The woman was overjoyed and after a two week separation, the cat was reunited with a very emotional owner and its sister.
It is a lesson learned that nothing is impossible and to always keep your eyes and ears open for animals in distress.

My family had a similar experience with a much longer reunion time, 10 years! Back in July of 1997, while visiting my mom, my daughter & I found a kitten sitting on the front steps. The kitten was a ginger tabby, male, wearing a red leather collar studded with rhinestones. We asked around & put up flyers but nothing. 3 months later we named the cat, Dionysus, and took him to the vet for his shots. Fast forward to 2007, my daughter is now a senior in high school & we live next door to where Dionysus was found. One day my daughter brings home a friend from school & in making conversation I ask if she was from the area. She explained that she used to live nearby but her family moved away nearly 10 years early, at the end of first grade. i mentioned it must have been tough moving, thinking of leaving friends behind. The girl said "Yeah, it was real hard because my cat had runaway the month before we moved." "What did your cat look like?" I asked, and the girl proceeded to describe Dionysus right down to the red leather collar with rhinestones! We were all stunned. I brought the cat to her & she gave him a big hug. I asked if she would be wanting him back, she said "No, he's all yours. Just thanks for caring for him. Truth is I thought he was dead, I'm just happy he's ok".
Yay!
Love a story with a happy ending!
