Health Care Reform: A Proud Moment In American History

As the battle for health reform captured America’s attention, Care2 members voiced their opinion on the matter. Thousands signed petitions demanding health care reform, while others posted blogs discussing the the consequences and creating opportunities for lively debate.

President Barack Obama signed the Healthcare Bill on Tuesday March 23, starting a new chapter in United States healthcare. This $938 million bill will ensure medical coverage for the 32 million uninsured Americans, claiming the biggest healthcare victory in several decades.

This legislation will touch the lives of all American citizens, benefiting a great number of people. Including families, children and small businesses, who will experience lower healthcare costs and expanded coverage. Denying healthcare to Americans because of pre-existing conditions is now in the past. Some effects of the bill will take place immediately, while others will take a few years.

This victory symbolizes the dedication of both political leaders and supporters, who continuously fought for this bill to pass. Thank you to all Care2 members who took action — your efforts are making history.

Lizards Receive Some Much Needed Recognition

More than 8,000 Care2 members took action and signed the petition identifying the need to protect the flat-tailed horned lizard. We are now one step further in helping this animal as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently re-opened the proposed rule to list them as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

Thank you to those who signed the original petition — but these lizards still need your help. As time goes on, their habitat continues to diminish. Tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to take the next step and list the flat-tailed horned lizard as threatened!

Sea Turtles Seek Help

Similarly, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently proposed to change the status of the North Pacific and Northwest Atlantic loggerhead sea turtles from threatened to endangered under the Endangered Species Act. Giving Care2 members another opportunity to take action and help an animal in need!

The loggerhead has experienced an aggressive decline in the past decade. Fortunately, over 6,000 Care2 members have already signed to help! Please sign this petition to protect the loggerhead sea turtle.
