Oklahoma Students “Accidentally” Shown Anti-Choice Propaganda Film

High school officials in Wagoner, Oklahoma say they happened to “accidentally” show viewings of a new anti-choice documentary “180″ and hand out free dvd’s to students, without parental permission. Of course.

The film was created to “change the mind of every pro-choice person who views it” by comparing abortion to the Holocaust.

Needless to say, parents were not happy about the “accident.”

As Robin Marty reports, it wasn’t until parents complained that the school stopped showing the film and confiscated the dvds. School superintendent Marte Thompson blamed a student aide for accidentally handing the movies out before the school got consent from parents.

We can agree this was no accident, right? School officials showed the film and only took action after some parents expressed outrage, in part because they likely assumed there would be no complaints. And this is precisely the kinds of assumptions that become routine when schools are forced to accept pseudo-scientific positions as equivalent to actual science and when religious belief is presumed to have a role in health curricula.

So being devious, telling lies and avoiding getting permission from parents for doing something outrageous is OK as long as it is in Jesus' (by a narrow definition) name?!?!? The religious right exalts itself above all other Americans and that needs to stop. Per the latest Gallop Poll, 78% of Americans believe that abortion should remain legal and that includes a lot of religious Americans. As far as I know, no pro-choice people have killed anti-choice doctors or bombed abortion free clinics to support their cause. That is for good reason. THEY ARE NOT CRAZY!
Any teacher and any aide who participated in this should be fired! Have they been fired? If not, why not?!?!

"accidentally" my arse!
And comparing abortion to the Holocaust? It's disgusting and insulting.

Yes, and next week they will "accidentally" show an anti-evolution video and, if the aide doesn't LIKE this particular group, she may show a video about fire that tells them to stand up nice and tall to get out of a burning building and run like crazy if your clothes catch on fire.

BS this was not an accident unless the teachers are complete idiots. Well I think they have proven they are complete idiots who think nothing of infringing on others rights.

There should be no veil of secrecy when it comes to the topic and education of abortion and then women can make an informed choice. Education needs to begin at an early age and my daughter watched a video about abortion in school when she was 14 years old. She never forgot it and it made her very aware how traumatic an unwanted pregnancy could be and how she would never want to be in the position to have to consider abortion. I understand every individual situation is different and really feel for any woman who is faced with the decision to end their pregnancy but I have no sympathy with women who have multiple abortions and simply use it as a form of birth control.

Republicans and fascists have this in common.... the fascists in Europe banned literature on birth control and increased penalties for abortion in 1926, declaring both crimes against the state.. They relentlessly railed against birth control, and have pushed their idea of abstinence as if they have always practiced it themselves. Today, in the USA they are attempting to ban abortion, considering laws to legalize the killing of abortion providers and laws that destroy Planned Parenthood and allow hospitals to let women die rather than give her a life saving abortion. Republicans are also assaulting unions that represent professions held by mostly women such as nurses and education and have been highly critical of single mothers who work.
