Puppies Saved from Burning House
One brave mama dog’s good deed has gone viral, thanks to social media.
A house fire in Temuco, Chile, threatened Amanda, a German Shepherd cross, and her tiny pups. Amanda plucked the pups from the house, carrying them gently in her mouth, and depositing them on the steps of the fire truck.
After they doused the blaze, the firefighters dropped Amanda and her pups off at the vet’s. One of them was badly burned and died. The others are doing fine.
At least that is one version of the story. As soon as the story appeared on Reddit, dozens and then hundreds logged in to comment. Chilean jorgemaigom gave another version and cited a local article in Soy Temuco:
Sorry to break the illusion, but this history is only partially all true, firefighters took the puppies and the mother out of the house, obviously the mother gather them and put them in a closed and safe space, he was aware something unusual happening but is not like she was taking them out of a burning house.
Reddit reactions to the incident were all over the map, but the story brought out the best in many commenters. CaptFluffBunny chimed in with a touching story of his own, about a dog he had looked after while its owner recovered in hospital after a serious car accident. He said looking after pets found after house fires and accidents is standard for firefighters. He added:
We have lots of bedrooms at the station for the firefighters, and every once in a while you will walk down a hallway and hear meowing or panting, and know there must have been a call that helped save some pets.
If you drop by your local fire hall, don’t be surprised to find a pet or two being looked after until it can be reunited with its owners.
