In 1982, the International Whaling Commission introduced a moratorium on commercial whaling. Unfortunately, this did not hinder Japan, Iceland or Norway’s merciless hunts for these beautiful creatures.
Japanese whalers merely took advantage of a loophole in the legislation and began hunting under the guise of “scientific research”. However, most of this “research” is for finding ways to make whaling more efficient and collecting data to support lifting the ban on commercial whaling.
Over 25,000 whales, including ones listed as endangered, have been hunted since the ban took effect in 1986. Many of these whales were killed by means of harpoons that are designed to explode inside of their bodies.
In Iceland alone this year, 148 endangered fin whales and 60 minke whales have been killed.
“The gunners themselves admit that if whales could scream the industry would stop, for nobody would be able to stand it.” -Dr. Harry Lillie

Sick pathetic individual....
Just read about this on motherjones.com and on how Powell's comments may carry more weight than Obama's…
Why do these Indian men poach tigers? Because these men are desperately poor. There is a market in China…

Petition signed, thanks for posting.
What is sad is that in Japan, so much food goes to waste everyday, including whale, despite the fact that it's a delicacy and more expensive. Even more pathetic is that so much food is wasted everywhere in the 'progressive' countries of the world.
There is so much good food in Japan that I managed to thrive as a vegetarian there for the two years that I lived there. There's no need to have all the carnage--anywhere for that matter.

for more signatures and awareness.
Our "Buddha Beings" as Captain Watson endearingly refers to whales need our collective voices to save them in the Southern Ocean from the Japanese money making / killing machines !
We must stand beside our sea families, and give voice to their right to live free.
