Rally Goers Show Wisconsin What Democracy Looks Like

Tens of thousands thronged to Madison, Wis. Saturday to send a message to Gov. Scott Walker and corporate-backed politicians in the state and beyond: This is still what democracy looks like.

It’s been a year since Walker and his cronies rammed through a bill that targeted 200,000 public service workers and all but eliminated collective bargaining. But the huge crowds at this weekend’s Reclaim Wisconsin March proved the last 12 months only sharpened the resolve of the state’s citizens to fight back.

More than 1 million people signed petitions in recent months to put Walker’s recall on a ballot this summer. Wisconsin election officials last week recommended that that recall elections for Walker, his lieutenant governor and five Republican lawmakers take place on June 12.

AFSCME Sec.-Treas. Lee Saunders traveled to Wisconsin this weekend to meet with fellow AFSCME members there. He also spoke in Madison Friday night at the premier of a new film called We are Wisconsin.

“This was a demonstration of people that reverberated around the world and reverberated around the world and helped a spark a movement from Wall Street to Oakland,” Saunders said. “You are an example of how to fight back, and a warning to tyrants everywhere.”

No one asked you to relate well or at all with me Michael A, that makes me very uncomfortable that you would think that at all, it also makes me think you are reverting to the typical tea party/conservative's M.O. argumentum ad hominem; attacking the person instead of reponding to the facts. I could give a crap who you can relate to... just tell me where in my facts about the conservative presidents I am wrong or who you would get to pay for those federal programs or why you would not get rid of the federal programs that are in place to help the majority of the people not the priviledged few such as yourself?

I'm not likely to relate well to unicorn women, much less unicorn men, Steven B. I have absolutely NO idea where you're coming from.

Factually irresponsible people (Mikey, jeffie et al) are foolish people who jeopardize our Country, our Democracy and of course our Economy with their lies.

That is ok Michael A, so you would describe the economy as being stable? That is not what you have been saying for the last 8 months or so... So who would you have pay for the military? the airports? the interstate highway systems? the FBI, CIA? the ports? I suppose you are one of those who would get rid of this department and that department...meaning the ones that benefit the many instead of the few. Thank God you are in a minority and the only way you can win is when Democrats stay home (2010) or when you try to rig the elections so that all those lesser people don't get to vote like you are trying to now... Bush was a conservative and spent money like it was water in the ocean and crashed the economy almost as bad as Hoover did in 1929. Bush doubled the debt of all the administrations before him. Reagan gave so big a tax cut that he blew a hole in the federal budger so big he spent the next 7 years raising taxes and spending money to try to repair it. Reagan tripled the debt of all the administrations before him. There has not been a conservative president in the last 50 years who was "fiscally responsible", those words sure do sound good but when they get into office they are anything but... Give us all a break with you high flying words that obviously mean nothing once your candidates are in office...

Fiscally irresponsible people are foolish people.

Of course, when we begin to see hyper-inflation, conserving money would be foolish.
