Remember When Newt Gingrich Cared About Climate Change? [Video]

Between the stalled debt ceiling debate and the beginning of the laborious wind up to the 2012 election, it’s hard to believe that GOP and Democratic leaders could ever put aside their differences for the greater good of our country and world.

But Gawker found concrete evidence that it has happened at least once before.

In the video below, you can plainly see that in 2008, Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi appeared side by side in an Al Gore-funded commercial. In it, both politicians agree that the United States must take action to address climate change.

Expressing a sentiment that sounds more in keeping with today’s  relentless partisanship, Gingrich recently told WGIR that he would never blatantly reach across the aisle on an issue affecting all human beings again:

“I was trying to make a point that we shouldn’t be afraid to debate the left, even on the environment,” Gingrich said on the radio of the 30-second television commercial. “Obviously it was misconstrued, and it’s probably one of those things I wouldn’t do again.”

As Mother Jones points out: Gingrich has since made abolishing the EPA a central issue of his campaign, so there have long been doubts about his sincerity in that particular ad campaign.

A Washington politician be insincere?! Say it ain’t so.

Come now! The Georgian Salamander needs donations from the very corporate interests that are responsible for global warming. Do you really think he is going to step on their toes?

the new "Faust", except that he gave up his privates instead of his soul.... It's not surprising what he misses the most. We should quietly close the door on his pathetic spectacle, and let him finish his death throes in privacy.

The regressive Republican Party of No is obstructionist, mean-spirited, thuggish, religiously fanatical, scientifically ignorant, corrupt, hypocritical, xenophobic, racist, sexist, homophobic, evolution and global warming denying, oily, anti-environment, anti-consumer, anti-choice, anti-education, union busting, Medicare and Social Security slashing, authoritarian, selfish, greedy, out-of-touch, lacking compassion, warmongering, and otherwise dangerous.

NEVER vote for Republicans.

well its only a 31 second video....not only can Newt change his mind about climate change, he can't even pretend he even talked with Nancy Pelosi since the current MO of the repuglicons is to not cooperate, work together, etc....agree with Mrs. S that reminds me of the stars who ask everyone to donate then go off and have huge environmental footprints, multiple homes, etc....

It was before Newt discovered the Tea Party and the billionaire pockets that feed it. That's when he changed his mind. And speaking of feeding, read about Newt Gingrich and his last Thanksgiving dinner, with conservatives for guests and liberals on the menu in Taking Conservatives Behind the Woodshed:

A good friend of mine wrote it and I'm helping him spread the word. We can all afford a great laugh for under $3.
