Between the stalled debt ceiling debate and the beginning of the laborious wind up to the 2012 election, it’s hard to believe that GOP and Democratic leaders could ever put aside their differences for the greater good of our country and world.
But Gawker found concrete evidence that it has happened at least once before.
In the video below, you can plainly see that in 2008, Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi appeared side by side in an Al Gore-funded commercial. In it, both politicians agree that the United States must take action to address climate change.
Expressing a sentiment that sounds more in keeping with today’s relentless partisanship, Gingrich recently told WGIR that he would never blatantly reach across the aisle on an issue affecting all human beings again:
“I was trying to make a point that we shouldn’t be afraid to debate the left, even on the environment,” Gingrich said on the radio of the 30-second television commercial. “Obviously it was misconstrued, and it’s probably one of those things I wouldn’t do again.”
A Washington politician be insincere?! Say it ain’t so.
