Since apparently the first two “extreme Muslims” hearings didn’t cause enough anger and xenophobia, New York Congressman Peter King has announced that he will be holding yet another hearing, this one at the end of July.
Via The Hill:
The chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security on Tuesday announced a third hearing on Islamic radicalization in America.
Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) said the hearing will take place on July 27. It is titled, “Al Shabaab: Recruitment and Radicalization within the Muslim American Community and the Threat to the Homeland.”
“At this hearing, the third in a series, we will examine Somalia-based terrorist organization al-Shabaab’s ongoing recruitment, radicalization, and training of young Muslim-Americans and al-Shabaab’s linking up with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP),” King said in a statement announcing the hearing.
King’s first hearing, a generalized meeting on “radical Islam” mainly culminated in a group of like-minded congressmen and “experts” repeatedly discussing how CAIR was an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a variety of terrorist plots. His second hearing, which focused more specifically on “radical Islam in the prison system” went by with very little notice.
King has been accused of racism for his relentless focus on Muslims as a source of terrorism in the United States, and has defended himself by stating “The purpose of this committee is to combat Islamic terrorism because that is the terrorist threat to this country. If we find out that neo-Nazis are allied with a foreign power and they come into this country, we will investigate it.”
Of course, the problem with that is that the neo-Nazis committing terrorist acts aren’t allied with a foreign power. They’re all home grown.
