Rick Santorum Takes On The Disabled

Rick Santorum Takes On The Disabled

Not only is failed Republican presidential contender and evangelical extremist Rick Santorum not going away (rumor has it he’s open to another presidential run in 2016), but he’s decided to take on another crusade in the meantime – opposing the disabled.

Santorum was in Washington D.C. to join Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) to lobby the Senate to reject the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, a human rights treaty negotiated during George W. Bush’s administration. The treaty has been ratified by 126 nations including China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The treaty forbids discrimination against people with disabilities but for Santorum it represents a “direct assault on us” and raises “grave concerns” over U.S. sovereignty. To make matters worse Santorum brought his own disabled daughter Bella to the Senate hearing room for the event. Seriously.

Hard right conspiracies over U.N. threats to U.S. sovereignty are nothing new, but Santorum’s appearance marks a new low in the New World Order crowd. The treaty, in a nutshell, directs the other signatories to update their laws so they more closely match the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition to broad bi-partisan support in the past the treaty enjoys the support of disabilities and veterans groups and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Santorum and the other Tea Party anti-disability advocates, arguing the treaty will threaten parents who wish to home school and insisted the treaty was an invitation for baseless litigation–about what Santorum was less than specific other than it would result in a U.N. takeover of parenting.

And with this we see the very heart of the hard right. Santorum is taking a “principled” stand on extending guarantees and protections against discrimination for people with disabilities worldwide out of a nothing more than blind fear that a vocal and irrational minority will lose the ability to teach their children in religious and xenophobic extremism.

This guy looks to be as bad as the UK Prime Minister David Cameron who made political capital out of his disabled son and then when he got into office destroyed the financial support systems for all disabled people in the UK. I really don't know how these people can sleep at night.

Well, another sad thing is that once upon a time, disabled people were warehoused. There, many were mistreated, underfed, unbathed, and it led to many things such as pressure sores that invited bacterial infections that led to their early deaths, and nothing to treat or prevent. Others ended up with hepatitis because of unkempt boarding houses.

Another reason to get rid of the poitical party system at the Presidential level as it said in the Constituion PRIOR to the founding of the modern versions of both the Democrats and Republicans in the mid-19th century.

So is he going to live forever to where he can take care of his daughter after his wife dies? Or does he want his own child to be discriminated against in housing, work, etc after he's too ailing to take care of her?

(CONT-GOT CUT OFF)
The TP/GOP says the current WH Gov't is trying to control the people, Really. Who's the party that wants to dictate women's reproductive health & cancer screenings from PP? Who's the party that doesn't want Equal Pay for Women? Who's the party that wants to dictate our children's education systems? Who's the party that was trying to dictate America's Belief to only your Radical Christianity Beliefs? Who is the party that Tried to dictate who could vote & when by Fraudulent Methods? Who is the Party that is trying to change our Constitution to fit their own Beliefs & Agenda? The party is trying to turn our nation into a dictatorship by running it as an American Version of the Taliban!

Srsly now Ricky, you Lost & you Lost BIG. Not only your Party, but yourself in the Primaries, & you personally-first when we Pennsylvanians knocked you out of the state & second when your Party Lost the Majority Votes in the election in the State of PA. You were irrelevant then & you're irrelevant now. Go where all your fading TeaBaggers are gathered, still making up stories on the Pres.b/c of Denial on Losing, & maybe sit and figure out Why ALL Women, Environmentalists, the Youth, Latinos, etc., Voted against ALL of you. Can't wait to see what Comedy Troupe is up next from your party in 2016, especially if you all don't make a sincere effort to rethink your platform on so many issues (b/c even as we speak a lot of your senators are STILL bashing those issues & anyone associated with them. not starting out very good for campaigning for 2014).
And SHAME on you (& s.palin) for USING your precious disabled children for your OWN agendas! That's Really LOW. And btw, MOST Americans Do Not want their children Home Schooled. Who's the party that doesn't want Equal Pay for Women? Who's the party that wants to dictate our children's education systems? Whoops, meant to say globally protected rights that they cannot hope to rescind whenever they get control over America and can start knocking off protections...
