Right-Wing Echo Chamber Suffers a Huge Fail

Right-Wing Echo Chamber Suffers a Huge Fail

‘Ambush’ journalism seems to be a particular favourite of conservative websites and media and it has failed before, like when someone walked straight into a light pole.

New star ‘Breitbartian’ right-wing ambush reporter Jason Mattera thought he would do his stuff on the liberal Bono, lead singer of U2 and anti-poverty campaigner, in order to promote his book on ‘Hollywood Hypocrites.’ So at an event where he found Bono, he pretended to be a fan, and then asked him questions about allegations that he’s a tax dodger.

After releasing the tape and it being promoted on the front pages of Breitbart ‘Big’ websites, he went on Sean Hannity’s radio show in advance of an appearance on Hannity’s TV show. It was only after that radio appearance that someone realized that Mattera had interviewed a Bono impersonator and the video went private.

Bizarrely, because the guy really doesn’t look much like Bono, and has no Irish accent, Mattera’s editor would not admit that they screwed up saying: “We went through a vetting process on this and appropriate questions were raised and appropriate answers were given.”

Watch the video:

These are the same people whose ‘vetting’ of the President is their big thing and legacy of the recently deceased Andrew Breitbart and is getting big play on Fox News shows like Hannity’s — which isn’t going so well itself if by ‘vetting’ they mean discovering that Obama hugged a black man.

To review, here are the big ‘reveals’ in the Breitbartian media world. Let us see if there might be a theme emerging:

Obama sides with black man against cop who arrested him for being black.

Obama invites black musicians to the White House.

Obama gives British Queen an iPod loaded with Motown (black) music

As a child, Obama was mentored by a black man who wrote a naughty novel.

Obama and First Lady exchange terrorist (black) fist bump

Obama wants to give pills to our white women so they can have lots of sex.

Black Obama USDA official hates white people if she’s edited patriotically.

Obama’s uncle is a homeless black man.

Obama’s black mother-in-law practices black voodoo magic in the White House.

It's the same reason why people are so outraged that these websites are spending so much time on Trayvon Martin's twitter and Facebook account and none on dispatching journalistic troops to find out if Zimmerman actually has medical proof of these injuries.

Breitbart *in his own words* was an ideological warrior. These people are engaged in a war, and 'all is fair in... ' That was his mantra. His guru was Lee Atwater - before he repented.

Bono's tax failings have been well picked over by the European media. It is not news that he is a hypocrite. His tax avoidance is not illegal, neither are those of these sites pals. But to go after Bono is to take part in a war. To go after tax avoiding pals is to fail a basic allegiance test. That is the point.

Something else occurred to me.

Your logic, if accurate, would be analogous to why conservatives are judged as hypocritical for straying from moral values - and why liberals who stray from same are not judged at all. Is it because they.........have no moral values?

None of these "Schemes" are illegal.
It is the HYPOCRISY at work here - not illegality.
What is there to report if there is no hypocrisy??
Why can't you understand this??

@Elizabeth M C.

Er, to follow your logic ..

The ideological friends of the Big websites/Materra are not anti-poverty or anti-tax avoidance therefore there's no hypocrisy here, therefore no need to report their friends tax schemes. Got it.

Ye of low brain power,
This article criticises Mattera for who he interviewed, not why he interviewed him, which is of far greater importance to anyone of greater brain power.
Cayman Island accounts are legal.
Mitt doesn't preach for higher taxes, twit. Therefore, he's not a hypocrite for trying to pay fewer taxes. TWIT!

And of course Hannity had Jason Mattera on his show. He puts all the wing nuts on.

1:35PM PDT on Mar 26, 2012

I thought this article was about Matter, the lying little tea bagger. Not about Bono. But this is what tea party nuts do they change the subject when they don't like it.

Some people with low brain power can't stick to the issue at hand. Like, I won't change the subject to why Mitt Romney hides his money in the Islands or Switzerland. Or why he places his poor dog on the roof for a twelve hour drive, while his sons are inside. Or why Santorum thinks women shouldn't use birth control. No, I wouldn't do that!

His ' ideological' friends do not complain that the rich don't pay enough taxes and then look for every possible tax shelter/break they can find.
That's what's hypercritical. And exposing it is the objective - not agenda.

Members of U2 are among Ireland's wealthiest residents.
While Bono campaigns against poverty, he and his group save millions in taxes, and stiff Ireland at a time when the country desperately needs the money, by diverting its place of business to the Netherlands.

This should be the issue - not egg on Mattera's face.

@Elizabeth M C.

The agenda here wasn't tax dodging, it was promoting a book called 'Hollywood hypocrites'. Do you think these people would ever talk about tax dodging fairly, like real journalists, if it implicated their ideological friends? Plenty of 'liberal' journos have gone after Bono on taxes.

"Conservative" "journalists" should start by learning about journalism, practice it, learn the ethics, practice them. I have worked with real conservative journalists and know them to be people of integrity, unlike the Breitbart set.
