Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich may have won the first big newspaper endorsement, but one paper does not a trend make. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has picked up a few endorsements of his own, from the Sioux City Journal and two papers in New Hampshire.
The Journal writes: “If as a Republican your No. 1 priority is the defeat of Obama, consider this: Romney is the candidate within this field who is best-positioned to win general election votes from not simply Republican voters, but from the all-important Independents in the middle, as well as from moderate Democrats on the left.”
In New Hampshire, the Foster Daily Democrat and Sunday Citizen say, “Today, more than ever, the United States needs a president willing…to adapt to today’s demands for governance, not remain married to methods because they are from a simpler time.”
Of course, neither New Hampshire publication holds the weight of the New Hampshire Union Leader, which came out for Gingrich and helped push his new rise to front runner status. And that rise still continues. Gingrich is now leading 26 points to 18 points over Romney in Iowa, a gain of over 20 points since October. Gingrich has also gained about 20 points in New Hampshire, although he is still nearly 13 points behind Romney there.
As for the general election, the Sioux City Journal may say that Romney is the best chance against President Barack Obama, but in both states Obama still leads him in a head to head match up.

So Bill, how old does a woman have to be in order to be a citizen, if she is born in the US? How did…
The trash definitely needs to be removed. I once read a book on Everest "Into Thin Air', and there was…
scary how power interferes with democracy, representation and governing at times

"And hopefully, they'll rip each other apart and leave Ron Paul to pick up the pieces!"
heh..he is the only one in that clown posse that can walk and talk collectively without
looking like a darwin award hopeful...
the republican party doesnt have sack required to nominate ron paul anyway :P
that would be such an interesting election.
I, myself, hope it's Newt that gets the nomination as he seems more slimey and more corrupt than Romney, although I may be wrong about this as they're both running a close race for whoever is the worst. And, of course, Romney is such a flip-flopper that it's very hard to tell, or discern, when the "real" Romney will appear.
Anyway, it certainly appears that Newt would be the easier of the two for Obama to beat, although neither one of them may be all that difficult. Then again, there are quite a few people who are blinded by the faux news, believe all the BS being spread, and are so blind and filled with fear and hatred that they could vote for anyone.
Remember...the elections are just a small piece of the picture these days. Sure, pay attention, but just go about your own lives making your own changes. No matter who you vote for, you will need to make this a better world on your own. We no longer have faith in either party.
This should make Tim Pawlenty VERY happy. This obsequious twit ,in an interview with Lawrence O,Donnell, would have kissed Romney,s feet, he was schilling for the V.P.nomination.
Two who change their minds as they change their socks! That is ALL that this poor country needs right now!
Thanks Marianne, I guess you do need to point that out to people who can't figure that out for themselves. As I said, no brains!
Neither extreme works
"Underscoring this on Sunday, Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, a conservative Republican and former House member, said, Im not inclined to be a supporter of Newt Gingrich, having served under him for four years and experienced personally his leadership.
Mr. Coburn, speaking on Fox News, implied that Mr. Gingrich fit a category of leaders that have one standard for the people that they are leading and a different standard for themselves.
So, a conservative who knows the Grinch, has that to say.. Apparently it's not just the bleeding heart liberals who don't like him.

Also:
* no taxes, no salary and benefits for the President
*no taxes, so salary, benefits, and hugely generous retirement package for Congress
*no taxes, no public servants AT ALL
*no taxes, no infrastructure
*no taxes, no military
*no taxes, no unemployment benefits
*no taxes, no police and fire departments
*no taxes, no public or national parks, beaches, and other recreation areas
*no taxes, no sidewalks, streets, or streetlights
No taxes, and the right would be complaining vigorously about the loss of all the above, and trying to find a way to blame it on progressives.
No taxes??? No brains!!!
