Editor’s note: This Care2 post was originally published in October, 2011. In light of the current backlash against Rush Limbaugh, combined with a worldwide uproar over the criminal acts of Joseph Kony, we are presenting this article again for your perusal.
In his October 14 show, Rush Limbaugh said that the reason Obama has sent advisers to Northern Uganda to help fight the terrorist group the Lordís Resistance Army (LRA) was because they are Christians.
The LRA have kidnapped thousands of children across central Africa, raped them and forced them to be soldiers.
There are 33 charges, 12 counts of crimes against humanity, which include murder, enslavement, sexual enslavement and rape. There are another 21 counts of war crimes which include murder, cruel treatment of civilians, intentionally directing an attack against a civilian population, pillaging, inducing rape and forced enlisting of children into the rebel ranks.
ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said that “Kony was abducting girls to offer them as rewards to his commanders.”
Some of the children are forced to hide every night to avoid kidnapping.
This is the ‘Christian’ Limbaugh is defending.
“You never heard of Lordís Resistance Army? Well, proves my contention, most Americans have never heard of it, and here we are at war with them. Lordís Resistance Army are Christians. It means God. I was only kidding. Lordís Resistance Army are Christians. They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops, United States troops to remove them from the battlefield, which means kill them.”
Little Green Footballs (LGF) has the transcript.
“How do you react to the news that Obama has dispatched a hundred soldiers to fight radical Christians in Africa?”
LGF then follows the latest anti-Obama meme start to quickly spread across the web, example:
“Christian resistence fighters to be Ďeliminatedí by peacenik Obama.”
Do these people even know the LRA is chiefly up against, in Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, a big-time Christian linked to some very powerful US evangelical groups? Will Rick Warren challenge Limbaugh on this nonsense?
