Santorum: Get Those Women Married So They Vote Republican

Santorum: Get Those Women Married So They Vote Republican

Want to know how Democrats keep getting elected to office?  Why, it’s the single moms, the “political base” of the Democratic Party, according to former Pennsylvania Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

According to RightWingWatch, Santorum told Tony Perkins of the Family Resource Council, “Look at the political base of the Democratic Party: it is single mothers who run a household. Why? Because it’s so tough economically that they look to the government for help and therefore they’re going to vote. So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government.”

Of course, this brilliant idea that women with no men to help them out need the government, and, by extension, the Democrats in government to provide for them isn’t a Santorum original. In fact, it’s a Phyllis Schlafly special! “[D]o you know what was the second biggest demographic group that voted for Obama? Obviously the blacks were the biggest demographic, yall know what was the second biggest?  Unmarried women.  70% of unmarried women voted for Obama.  And this is because when you kick your husband out, you’ve got to have Big Brother Government to be your provider.  And they know that. They’ve admitted it.”

Besides the assumption that only those who rely on the government vote Democrat (at least, those who realize they rely on the government, versus the large mass of conservatives who do as well, but pretend the government does absolutely nothing for them), there’s another underlying vein in the argument — essentially that women can’t decide for themselves who to vote for.  Women who are taken care of by the “Government” vote for the “Government,” or Democrats.  Women who are cared for and provided for by a husband will vote as the husband believes, or Republican.

Perhaps Santorum gets to tell his wife who to vote for, but for most women in the real world that just doesn’t fly.

I hate the political parties in this country. The Con Rep are too "good ole boys club" and the Lib Dem are too hippie dippie. Both sides want to impose their will on ME and I DON"T WANT THEM TOO. I have a BA Degree, a good job, a ton of debt and my own opinions. So once again I will be voting for the lesser of the two evils.

So, let me see if I understand this... women who are unwilling to prostitute themselves to a husband who abuses them and their children... women who are strong enough to take their lives back and stand up for their rights and the rights of their children... women who have built character through independence... those are the Democrats.

The Democrats have a great team to work.

GO DEMOCRATS!

I have always considered myself an 'Independant' and still do but I voted for GOP presidental candidates for a whole lot of years. I voted for the elder Bush once, but his stand on womens rights and the way he handled Desert Storm prevented me from voting for him a second time. I voted twice for Perot in protest to the available choices. But for the last several elections Ive voted for the Democrat running. The GOP's attitude towards the 1% of wage earners and disregard for the welfare of the 99%, the attitude towards women, and the strangle hold the fundamentalist xtians have gained over the party will prevent me from voting for any Republican in the forseeable future.

It is outrageous that anyone would try to pretend this kind of balderdash is 'the truth'. Men arent democrats? Married women arent democrats? Only single women living on welfare vote for Democrat candidates? If there are THAT MANY single women living off welfare then this country IS in trouble! They make up more than half the population in the US, as was proven by the last Presidential election!

These men just can't stand the fact that women can think for themselves and actually be self sufficient. Must be scary from their standpoint realizing that women are beginning to come into their own again and are rebelling against being second class citizens.

I hope all the Feminist and Women's Rights groups tear this asshat a new one.

I was a Republican many years ago. It did not take me long to realize what that party is all about. I became a Democrat, and although we are not perfect, We are for women's rights, gay rights. civil rights, religious freedom- including freedom from religion, fair taxes, jobs for the middle class, truth, and honesty. When I say truth I mean not slandering, and making things up, and just plain lying. Such as; Obama was born in Kenya, Obama was raised by someone, somewhere other than where he really was, death panels, Muslim, Marxist, etc etc...You have all heard it all, you know what I am saying is true if you are honest.

Santorum should consider a bill going back to the good old days when married women had green kitchens and stayed drugged on nerve pills so they could tolerate their being in the same room with their cheating, drunk, and abusive husbands. Theirs no reason to teach a male he needs to show respect to his wife, to teach him the world won’t end over a forgotten box of cheerios but it will end over cheating. No lets go strait for that woman who would rather be broke and alone as to be beaten and with someone who just got done doing his coworker. Got to love the fact it is male researchers that are doing the research on artificial sperm. I am a single mother I don’t depend on the government and I did vote for Obama. When I find a man that can be half the man I have had to be then I may consider him. Good luck guys that is a big pair of shoes to fill.

LOL - I was a Republican until I hit 40...& I got married. This is silly. Women have brains & we can think for ourselves. We don't need a husband to tell us HOW to vote....We don't even need a stable relationship. We don't need kids. Some of us will vote Republican irregardless of marital status - just as some will vote democratic irregardless of marital status.
Vote Eric Cantor OUT....
