Santorum To Rape Survivors: Make The Best Of It By Having That Baby

360 comments Santorum To Rape Survivors: Make The Best Of It By Having That Baby

It’s a line conservatives like to trot-out when trying to soften their extreme anti-abortion stance, and this time it’s former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum’s turn.

In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan show, Santorum was interviewed rather extensively on his hardline anti-abortion views and at one point was asked what Santorum would advise one of his young daughters should she suffer the misfortune of becoming pregnant after a rape and begged her father for permission to have an abortion.

You all know what Santorum’s answer was.

Said Santorum “I would do what every father would do-to try and counsel your daughter to do the right thing.” When pressed on whether or not the “right thing” could include having an abortion Santorum replied “You can make the argument that if she doesn’t have this baby, if she kills her child, that too could ruin her life.”

Santorum added: “I believe and I think that the right approach is to accept this horribly created, in the sense of rape, but nevertheless, in a very broken way, a gift of human life, and accept what God is giving to you. As you know, in lots of different aspects of our life we have horrible things happening. I can’t think of anything more horrible, but nevertheless we have to make the best out of a bad situation. And that is making the best of a bad situation.”

That’s right ladies. Santorum’s advice is to make that lemonade out of life’s lemons, so long as “lemonade” only means forcibly carrying your pregnancy to term.

When one thinks of the strict canons specially of the Catholic Church and so many situations inn the old testament, one has only to think that those are voices of individuals. Check King David, Abraham, and many others.

OMG! IS RICK SANITORIUM CRAZY!
Having been sexually attacked by someone you know might be mildly acceptable ( to possibly reproduce in the case of date rate or some college kid jumping your bones under duress ) but to have a baby by an unknown man who violates your body, not knowing you just for his own sexual sick gratification....please! He might have AIDS, he might have poor protoplasm, he might be riddled with mental issues ( for sure.) How friggin' sick is this idea?
Women have fought for 40 or more years to decide when to have a child. If GOD didn't want the idea of abortion, it would have been stopped by her. If the concept of contraception hadn't been invented, we would be so over populated, we might not be able to eat.
I can't stand this recent onslaught of government getting involved in our reproductive rights. Who wants all these babies? Really, nobody is adopting the ones we now have unless they come from good , healthy mothers. Consider the father's DNA in this. Mental illness anyone?
This man is so NOT presidential material. He is praying on the Catholic and Evangelican vote and it's so obvious. Can't he think of anything else? He needs to work with what we've got, not what we don't have yet. Come-on, get serious folks!

Another nut-case deluding the brain-dead voters...nothing much to add.

Question: who added the LSD into the Republican water fountain ?

What planet does Rick Santorum live on? On Earth, we have options and abortion of a rapist is one of them.
I find it very hard to believe he would call a child that his daughter had from a rape "Grandson or Granddaughter."

I wonder how men who have been raped as adults or as children feel, hearing Santorum's sentiments. Obviously, males don't have to worry about something growing inside them except disease organisms. I really am curious.

I just love how he expects women to bear the burden of rape and a child produced from rape. Oh it's a gift alright. It's a gift created of violence and hate. If a woman WANTS to bear a rapists child, that woman has some guts and bravo for having that in you but to EXPECT every rape victim to be held accountable for a rape and a rapists child is utterly disgusting and demented. Do any of these people realize that you can die in childbirth?

P.S. In addition to being the best example of a brain dead GOP creature, Santorum is also EVIL!!!!!

There are those in the GOP that are brain dead...and then there's Santorum.

Frances: WAW you're not messing around. You did however, overlooked the most painful of them all, place his balls in a vise and crank it till the jaws meet that will be worst than cutting his throat.
