Say No to Horse Slaughter

Horses in the U.S. are still in serious trouble despite the last slaughter plants closing in 2007.  Instead of rehashing all the gory details here, you can find more information about the problems with horse slaughter, along with some informative links, in the previous posts Keeping our Horses off the Table and Horse Slaughter Sneaks Back into the U.S.

While the slaughter industry is still trying to convince people that they’re business is a “necessary evil,” opponents are working tirelessly on the other side to prevent horses from an unthinkable demise.

H.R. 503, the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, still lays waiting to be decided while Congress is on its two-week spring break, which makes this is a great time to contact your federal legislators and ask them to cosponsor this bill if you haven’t already.

I can not believe that the ban on slaughtering horses has been lifted. This is just wrong on so many levels. Horses have always made an important contribution, and now there is equine assisted therapy that helps abused kids, physically handicapped kids. They are sentient animals and one of the most abused. They feel. They feel pain, they feel connections to people. This is just an abomination.

I love horses, and hate to see them suffer. Slaughter should be banned around the world, horses are beautiful creatures. They should be respected and cared for.

If I were to have visited a slaughterhouse many decades ago, I surely would have changed my diet to be vegetarian --- I am now enjoying my vegan diet.

I agree there should stricter controls as to the amount of horses bred in all areas, birth control, etc. We should not be going backwards and bringing back slaughter houses for horses, i think it's a bad sign for the planet when people move back into the dark ages, it shows humans are not progressing as they should. No animal should be sent for slaughter, i think a lot more work needs to be done to promote vegetarianism, it's very easy to do and it doesn't hurt

Horses should not be slaughtered. Why should these beautful animals pay the price of human irresponsiblity. In the first place the horses should be left where they belong, free to roam and live happy lives.
