The Ukraine’s morality police are concerned that Spongebob is part of the homosexual agenda, while Disney is really just a vehicle for pornography (albeit with more jaunty music).
Reports the Wall Street Journal:
The sharp eyes at Ukraine’s National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality have spotted a report by a right-wing religious group that complains about SpongeBob’s “promotion of homosexuality” and Disney films’ “pornography,” and on Tuesday announced that it was calling a special session.
According to the report—published last week on the fringe Catholic website “Family Under the Protection of the Holy Virgin”—these and several other children’s shows are “a large-scale experiment on Ukrainian children” to “create criminals and perverts,” and should be banned. The commission is a state body that evaluates media to check they observe Ukrainian morality laws, which ban inciting religious hatred, producing or disseminating pornography, and propagating alcoholism and smoking, among other things. It’s not clear when it will meet to discuss the report.
Chairman of the National Expert Commission of Ukraine on protection of public morals V. Kostytsky decided to prepare a separate meeting of the National Commission.
The reason for this decision was the message that recently circulated on the Internet, which refers to the study of popular children’s cartoon “Sponge Bob”, “Luntik”, “Masha and the Bear”, “Telepuzyky”, “Pokemon,” “The Simpsons” and many others, according to people who produced it, are a real threat to our children.
Yes, apparently Spongebob is the tip of the corrupting iceberg. Tinky Winky of the Teletubbies is fingered for his darling red handbag, while beloved Shrek gets the beady eye for apparently containing sadism (nothing about witchcraft or talking animals, surprisingly). Perhaps most interesting is that South Park is also mentioned–it is berated for its apparent “reincarnation propaganda.” The “who killed Kenny” meme is not funny if he comes back to life, it would seem.
In May of last year the Ukraine legislature voted down plans to liquidate the National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality.
Since then, lawmakers have proposed a ban, similar to the Russian St. Petersburg ban, on homosexual propaganda in the public sphere. The law has been used in St Petersburg to virtually outlaw all positive depictions of LGBT rights. The Ukraine’s lawmakers deferred action on that legislation until later this year.
The Commission, with this latest act, is now calling on the government and president to “prohibit special animated projects” in the Ukraine. Whether this is meant to equate to an all-out ban is unclear, but certainly the Ukraine’s morality division wants narrower bounds as to what constitutes acceptable material for children, a worrying new facet to the Ukraine’s increased appetite for censorship.

A large majority of the former Soviet states are becoming more and more repressive. LGBT rights are crushed and religion are given special rights to influence politics. This is particular scary because of the short cut to political and religious extremism. We should all keep an eye at those former states to be ready when the shyte hits the fan.
This from a country that kills stray dogs by burning them.
Get real, a talking sponge, while definitely nerdy, cannot "turn" anyone gay. If this were possible I would know dozens of teens who are decidedly heterosexual (their parents are hoping the lessons on how to properly use a condom worked) would be gay. And Disney is mostly watered down versions of tales from the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson. Wake up and smell the hot chocolate, you creepy homophobes.
What the hell kind of garbage is this? Surely this can't be for real?

Wow I should have been 'turned' gay ages ago then, I love Spongebob!
Sponge Bob can "turn" you Gay? Really? If cartoons have that kind of power, why didn't Scooby-Doo turn me into a detective? Or why didn't all those hours of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (who, let's face it, settled most interpersonal conflict with a ready supply of dynamite and explosives) turn me into a violent domestic terrorist? I mean, okay...I like a good cheese Lasagna now and again, and I do admittedly over-eat from time to time, but can we really blame that on Garfield? However, it is becoming clear that censorship and repression can turn you profoundly stupid. Now THAT'S scary.
spongebob will make your brain rot but it won't turn you gay.
Lol, Michele Bachmann should feel right at home with that group.
