Top 10 American Vacation Spots the House’s Anti-Environment Bill Could Ruin

Checking pollution advisories could become a vital part of your pre-travel planning along with checking the weather and stopping the mail if the House of Representatives votes for more than 40 pollution provisions this week.

Simply put, the House could put future vacations at risk in order to keep Big Oil and coal interests happy. It plans to vote on the Interior Environment FY 2012 Appropriations bill, H.R. 2584, which is chock full of provisions that would prolong pollution of the air, water, oceans, and lands of your favorite vacation destinations.

Any one of these special interest provisions in H.R. 2584 is enough to wreck a vacation — from the Grand Canyon to the Great Lakes to Puget Sound from California’s Beaches to the Chesapeake Bay.  Taken together, they are an unprecedented assault on public health and public lands all hidden in an annual spending bill-which is why President Barack Obama promised to veto it.

Here’s how these provisions will impact 10 of America’s favorite vacation spots, with the appropriate section of H.R. 2584 included in parentheses:

Grand Canyon National Park
Uranium mining

The threat: One million acres around the Grand Canyon would be opened up to uranium mining, threatening the pristine canyon and polluting the drinking water source for more than 25 million Americans. (Sec. 445)

With close to 5 million visitors a year, the Grand Canyon National Park offers camping, raft trips, hiking, and guided tours of one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. A provision in the bill would allow mining companies to develop new mining claims that could begin just a few miles away from some of the most popular locations in the canyon. If developed, these claims could severely change the area’s landscape and pollute the Colorado River.

Dams, nuclear generators and coal generators are obsolete. See www.padrak.com/vesperman for inventions of safe non-polluting much cheaper generators such as hydro-magnetic dynamos and electrino fusion power reactors.

They only care about making money and keeping thier Big Energy puppet master happy. They don't realize that some things are priceless and should be off-limits. It horrifys me that they would even considered mining in the Grand Canyon.

Just how they delisted the Gray Wolf on the must pass spending bill a couple months ago. Politics, not science delisted the wolf. I don't even see how they justified this, it was sneaky and underhanded, and it has never been done before setting a horrible precedence. There are only 1500 wolves in the Rocky Mt. states. How on earth is that a viable population? Hunts have already been planned in Idaho from August thru March, with trapping allowed mid-way through. Even wolves that have dens in Yellowstone Park can be shot on site if they leave park property.

They are attacking this country's wildlife and environment out of greed, it totally sickens me the things that they would consider doing.

We need to take the House back from these people before they drag us back into the Dark Ages. We need strong, forward thinking Democrats to take control, people who really look out for the well-being of this Nation, instead of the interests of the small minority of millionairs and billionaires.

We're turning into a country of serfs and landowners, just like the old European Fuedal System.

Vote the goons responsible for wanting to destroy our Earth for greed, to help their buddies that back them etc. out of office( that would be the Tea Party and majority of Republicans). That's how we stop them. Thanks for the article!~

Who is using plastic now anyway? ? ? When faced with purchasing a bag for your purchases. . .isn't it the better? ? ? We are already buying our purchases from the store. . .who wants plastic from there as well? ? ? Isn't it bad enough that what we purchase is encased in plastic; that we have to carry it home in plastic as well? ? ?
