The amount of vegetable oil used to prepare foods is staggering. The amount of used vegetable oil that we waste is even more amazing, but with a bit of imagination, it does not have to be this way.
The answers are closer than we want to acknowledge, but they are present. In the spirit of being the change you want to see, there are a group of people that are converting their cars to run on vegetable oil.
This is the story of Matt Shapiro.
We go on and on about how there are limits to our resources. Yet with just a bit of effort we can solve problems.
There could be a centralized place in communities that will clean the used oil and provide it to customers. This could mean employment to members of a community.
The gunk that is leftover could be composted and given to community gardens or sold to people looking for this type of material. Perhaps the composted matter could be used to help restore damaged land areas. It is possible.
This is one time that love for french fries can help move a nation, and any legitimate reason to scarf down french fries works for me.

My brother has been using cooking oil in his diesel car for years now, no problem at all. One to two ratio.
That was interesting to watch...thanks!
We don't have enough used cooking oil to replace petroleum diesel. We should make good use of what used cooking oil we do have and would otherwise make a mess throwing away. But we also need to BRIBE big oil to develop bio-diesel from algae as a commercial product.

Great idea! But we still need to get away from cars run by any oil.
gREAT IDEA BUT THE OIL BARONS WILL FIND A WAY TO STOP THIS...THEY MAKE TO MUCH MONEY FROM OUR GREED FOR BIGGER CAR ETC....
So maybe we can donate used oil to the fuel companies in exchange for discounts on future purposes.
