At racetracks across Florida, thousands of greyhounds endure lives of confinement and many suffer serious injuries. Dogs are kept inside warehouse-style kennels, in small cages barely large enough for the dogs to stand up or turn around for up to 23 hours per day. Additionally, since 2004, state investigators have documented at least nine cases of severe neglect at Florida dog tracks and associated kennel compounds. It is time for this cruelty to end!
Two bills now being debated in the Florida legislature (House Bill 641 and Senate Bill 382) would decouple greyhound racing from other forms of gambling. Many tracks are actually losing money on greyhound races, but are required to continue racing in order to offer more profitable form of gambling. Greyhound decoupling would remove this mandatory racing requirement.
This mandate comes at a significant cost to both taxpayers and track operators, and conflicts with free market principles. Decoupling is not about whether greyhound racing should or should not be legal in Florida, but whether the state should force a business to conduct one activity so that it may offer another. This humane legislation does not expand gambling in any way.
Today, as many as 8,000 dogs endure lives of terrible confinement at Florida racetracks. Many of these greyhounds also suffer serious injuries.
Greyhound decoupling will significantly reduce dog racing in the state, and help thousands of dogs. Help us get this important proposal over the finish line!

it's always so breath taking to see someone resque animals and see the enourmous love for animals.
Great idea and clearly beneficial to all involved, keep at it!
Great news, it's time this was a worldwide ban. So many chickens have a miserable short life.

+ add your ownPetition signed. Those poor dogs deserve love and they are not getting any at all. Dog racing is in the past. It's over - let them go to a forever home, not a cage that is not big enough to stretch and turn around in.
Signed, thanks for sharing :-(
Signed.
thanks for sharing :)
Greyhound racing needs to be abolished, as does horse racing.
Somehow I think there is too much money involved here-just like in horse racing, for this petition to do much good--but signed and we can keep our fingers crossed. The way these dogs are disgarded after exploiting them is the real trajedy!
noted & signed!
I hate that my state has dog racing. I sign whatever petitions I can to get rid of it.
These piteous dogs. Greyhounds are one of the nicest breeds and perhaps one of the worst-treated because of racing. If people want to bet on racing, how about training people to race.
No more greyhound racing should be allowed!
