Walker Leads In Recall Polls. So What.

60 comments Walker Leads In Recall Polls. So What.

As the recall campaigns in Wisconsin turn to the second phase–the actual election– new polling shows Republicans in the state still hold a slight advantage with Gov. Scott Walker leading several possible Democratic challengers.

The poll numbers are not new, nor do they reflect any changing landscape in Wisconsin. But they will get a lot of attention.

For starters, they show the truth in the old political adage of “you don’t beat somebody with nobody”. Walker currently polls better than possible democratic challengers, but close enough that should any of those “possible” challengers turn into actual challengers the governor is in for a race.

The poll numbers also ignore the fact that one of the big stories in Wisconsin is not simply the possibility that Walker gets recalled. Sure, that would be fantastic. But in the meantime, Democrats in the state are building one of the most organized and up-to-date voter rolls leading into the 2012 elections.

And lets not forget the millions Walker and Republicans have been forced to raise, and spend, during a time when they should be padding war chests for 2012.

My point is this. Whether or not Walker actually loses in a recall election is not the determining factor of whether or not the recall campaign is a success. Wisconsin is the flashpoint in a movement against an encroaching plutocracy that will not be pushed back in one state with the recall of one governor. Republicans know this and will do anything to drive the narrative into one of inevitable defeat and failure.

Plain and simple, don’t believe the hype.

In the State of Oregon the Unions are upset that the amount of their pensions was made public, now they are upset that the public will learn how much they are being paid. What is so terrible for their employer of these people to know what their money is being spent for? Kick them out if they do not like the employer to know what kind of finances the Union person is making.

Why in the world would the Unions be fighting so hard to keep people under their thumbs when they want to work? If the unions have such a desire to want to run companies so badly then perhaps they should try to start a few companies and see what it is like to have to keep someone working when their job is not needed any more Or as the next paragraph states, look at what Scott Walker has accomplished in a very short time as follows:
"Wisconsin had lost 150,000 jobs over the previous three years and faced a $3 billion deficit when newly elected Governor Scott Walker enacted fiscally conservative policies designed to right the ship. Today, Wisconsin enjoys a $300 million surplus and 10,000 new jobs created in 2011. But instead of recognizing this remarkable change of course, one million Wisconsin voters have joined with union forces to trigger a recall election of Governor Walker." Some people may not like the change, but it is necessary for Governments to be able to hire and fire their own people, not having to ask some Union Boss permission, we sent men and women to manage our fiscal policies not children.

Rolf P. Accountants running companies is why so many of them go under, you need real business leaders to make a company profitable without compromising ethics.Unions ARE necessary with big business holding the nads of the government, they can get them to do whatever they want including repealing those same labor laws. Unions are NOT perfect but slavery is still worse.

Rolf P. Perhaps the worker that makes ten dollars an hour should be making twelve dollars an hour. Although that would probably be too much for the millionaire Republicans. I mean, come on folks their kids don't really need three meals a day. Do they?

David J. Was that a joke? If not then you really are delusional.

P.S. Rolf: the word is pursuit, not per suite. Check your spelling and grammar before posting.

Rolf P.: Bluntly stated, you are f***ed-up. Unions need to gain membership and strength, empowering them to continue the fight for workers' rights and fair pay, overturning and keeping in check the corporate greed that has overrun this country. Your brain-dead statement that labor laws have made unions obsolete is a perfect example of your lack of insight into the situation. Your assertion that unions are stealing tax dollars at a rate higher than they are able to negotiate is ludicrous. Union members have taken pay cuts and freezes, given back hard-fought-for benefits, and are paying higher levels of deductibles than ever before -- all in order to help keep companies and public sector jobs viable. So, Mr. Accountant, sharpen-up your #2 pencil and stick it up your stupid ass.

It matters because next year Walker will still be governor but Obama will no longer be president. President Newt should have a filibuster proof Senate which will allow us to finally get the country back on track.
