Waxman: GOP Is “Party of Science Deniers”

Ever wonder why the Republican party often pushes to eliminate or weaken public education?  Democratic Senator Henry Waxman might say that perhaps it has something to do with their utter contempt for science.

Via The Hill:

The Republican Party is the “party of science deniers,” a top House Democrat said Monday.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), an ardent proponent of climate-change legislation, criticized Republicans for their attempts to block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating greenhouse gas emissions during a speech at the Center for American Progress Monday

“I’ve never been in a Congress where there was such an overwhelming disconnect between science and policy,” Waxman, the former chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said.

“Republicans in Congress have become the party of science deniers, and that is profoundly dangerous,” he said.

The GOP has made it a mission to naysay any report that has been issued that reports that global climate change is a real measurable threat, choosing instead to hang on to junk science in an attempt to keep their donors who own large energy companies content.

For Waxman, Republicans can run from science, but that doesn’t mean they can avoid these problems forever.

“The new Republican majority has a lot of leeway to rewrite laws,” he said, “but they don’t have the ability to rewrite the laws of nature.”

Is there a reason the dumb just want to get dumber on climate issues? I believe it frightens then into denial, and they jeopardize us all. In this case patients in not a virtue with them.

Got to keep them dumbed down, it is easier to get the sheeple to believe every lie you tell them if they are stupid and ignorant of the facts. Easier to control too.

John S: "Most Activists"??? You need to get out more often and see what people are actually saying.
I have seen far more right-wingers associate the scientific issue of climate change with socialists, than liberals lobbying for socialism as a solution.
I have even heard one idiot argue that climate change was a hoax, because Al Gore was a socialist. (3 strike-outs in 1 statement: the clown didn't know squat about climate change, about Al Gore, nor about socialism)

Science just gets in the way of the GOP religious fantasies.

He might be right when talking about religious conservatives, e need better framing of the climate change issue. Most activists start unfairly from a condemnation of capitalism, in favor of socialism, instead of, say, rising CO2 as a uniquely scientific problem. Last time I checked, socialists didn’t have many concerns about ecological industrialization around the turn of the 20th century. I would doubt that a socialist bureaucracy would be able to make such a huge shift in industrial policy any faster than our current world seems to manage.

The republicans would have believed the world was flat even after Columbus proved that it wasn't. Republicans believe in money, avarice and greed. Republicans are paid millions of dollars to lie about Global Warming from the dirty fossil fuel companies that contribute the most to Global Warming like the dirty billionare Koch brothers. Their is no credible scientific evidence that can refute or deny that Global Warming is happening as a result of mankinds use of fossil fuels. James Inhofe is a corporate paid liar and a moron.
