Who’s Going to the Dance: A Better Way to Bracket

Who’s Going to the Dance: A Better Way to Bracket

It’s March Madness time everybody, and whether you are interested in college basketball or not, Citizen Effect is hosting a bracket competition that is worth getting in on. Even if you do not understand any of the references to Houston or you’ve had your picks for the dance since November, you can join in the fun and help a local community achieve a “more self-reliant, sustainable future.”

Brackets with Benefit (BwB) is an online pool that works like any normal office or friendly competition but it also will help out a community in need. They’re even giving out prizes to the top 16 brackets that match or (probably) better the ones you might win at work.

To compete, contestants donate $10 to the BwB cause which will in turn go toward funding a project to benefit the community. Then on Selection Sunday (March 13, 2011), fill out a bracket and you are eligible to win a 32 gig iPad, an HD Flip Videocamera, a TOMS Shoes gift pack, and the best prize: picking the project that Ciziten Effect funds! You can enter up to five brackets or help Citizen Effect underwrite the effort and donate directly to them.

There is also an option to sign up your office for a pool, instead of signing up as an individual and you’ll receive a huge Fat Head wall bracket to spice up the office for a while.

If you know nothing about it, you can visit ESPN to get a look at predictions for seedings and start doing your research or pick your alma mater and will them all the way to the final four! If nothing else, you’ll be able to join in on the water-cooler chit chat. You don’t want to relive the embarrassment of last year’s “Who’s Butler?” conversation.

Citizen Effect is a Washington, DC based entrepreneurial nonprofit that provides citizens with the tools and management they need to complete a small but critical philanthropic project. Learn more at www.CitizenEffect.org.

Apart from the BwB tournament, Citizen Effect works to provide exciting and effective crowd funding options to many different organizations. They allow you to choose from all kinds of fundraising opportunities including Happy Hours and movie screenings and they’ll help you organize and execute them.

One last tip for your bracket: JaJuan Johnson & the Purdue Boilermakers are going all the way (although I must admit, I am slightly biased)!

Thanks for the post! Hope you all join Brackets With Benefits! And, of course, if you have any questions about Citizen Effect, what we do, who we work with, etc.... We'd love to answer those for you.
