The following is an Email interview with Kelly Callaghan:

What kind of work or accomplishments have you done with your artwork? The artwork I have completed has been a wide variety of things from graphic design to illustration. My focus right now is creating simple yet detailed representational renderings of wildlife, people and places. I use mixed media featuring graphite, colored pencil and airbrush.

Why the interest in painting wildlife? I am interested in wildlife because of the amazing beauty within nature. I hope my artwork will inspire others to think about nature and make any effort to protect and understand our environment.

How many years have you been pursuing art? I have been an artist from the moment I received my first box of crayons. My parents tried to re-direct my interests into a more conventional line of work to earn a living. I have only recently returned to drawing during the past two years.

What year were you born and where? I was born in 1963 in Santa Monica, California.

Do you do this full time, and if not, what else do you do? I would love to do this full time and recently embarked on a new life style to do that. However, things have changed and now I find I have to put my pencils down and re-enter the work force again in the field of graphic design.

Has anyone been a particular inspiration to you in pursuing art? Many people have been a great inspiration to me. Travel has been an incredible inspiration!

What is your goal with your artwork? My artwork goals: To create awareness and assist conservation efforts with my line of artistic souvenirs. I have taken my drawings and created a beautiful collection of greeting cards and fridge magnets that I hope to sell to small shops connected with protecting the environment.

Did you ever have any formal training in art? I have taken college courses in communications and graphic design, but my illustration has been developed with my own natural skills.

What are the most compelling reasons to visit your site? As soon as I have my site completed, the most compelling reason to visit my site would be to see additional renderings and learn about how the purchase of my work could assist in the education of conservation and protection for wildlife.
