Thank "Heroes on the Hill" for Advancing the MDGs

Maternal and child health. Gender equality. Combatting HIV/AIDS. Environmental sustainability. These and the other Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aren't just the world's goals -- they're America's goals too. And they can't be achieved unless the United States pitches in to help.

This summer, the U.S. unveiled a development strategy to help end poverty and its root causes. But beyond that, the work of three members of Congress to advance global development and improve the lives of millions of citizens stand as a great example of the powerful impact Americans can have on progress around the world.

Thank the "Heroes on the Hill" -- Sen. Barbara Boxer and Rep. Barbara Lee of California and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry -- for their efforts to reach the MDGs and improve the future for the world's poor.
Dear Senator Boxer, Senator Kerry and Representative Lee,

Thank you for taking on important issues and challenges faced by the developing world. Your work to improve the lives and prospects of people and nations is an inspiration to Congress and the American people.

We are just five years away from the deadline for reaching the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. Your work to achieve one of the eight goals laid out to address poverty and its root causes lay an important foundation and shows what a powerful impact Americans can have on progress around the world.

Please continue to work to alleviate poverty at its root causes and improve people's lives around the world, because we know that the MDGs aren't just the world's goals -- they're America's goals too.
