Prevent Kona Blue Water from Starting a Factory Fish Farm

Fish farming uses giant round fish cages to hoard as many fish as possible. This leaves the fish cramped and more susceptible to disease. Fish farming also depletes the fish population at a rapid rate that is dangerous to the marine ecosystem. To add to these issues, any factory farmed fish that escape are a threat to wild fish populations.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an organization that is responsible for protecting and conserving our ocean's resources, is attempting to give the company Kona Blue Water a fishing license, which would give them the right to set up factory fish farms off the Hawaiian coasts.

The NOAA is rushing the process, only allowing for ten days of discussion before the license is approved.

This would be the first factory fish farm in U.S. waters. Let your Congress Member know that you disapprove of Kona's request to get a "fishing" license. Keep Hawaii's coasts safe from factory fish farms!

Dear Congress Member,

I urge you to speak up against the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's attempt to give a fishing license to Kona Blue Water. Kona would not actually use the license to fish, but would set up factory fish farms off the coasts of the Hawaiian islands to raise fish in captivity. These fish are at risk of spreading disease among themselves as well as the wild fish population. Also, fish farming depletes fish at an alarming rate, which will drastically affect the marine ecosystem.

This would be the first factory fish farm in U.S. waters. Please prevent this from happening. Factory farming is not fishing!

Sincerely,
