Defend California's Clean Car Bill

Did you know that the world's biggest automakers sued California to stop the state's "Clean Car Bill" from going into effect? The bill would fight global warming by reducing the carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles in California by 30 percent!

The automakers use "green" marketing campaigns and some have introduced hybrid vehicles. But when it comes time to test their commitment to the environment, it's business as usual - now they are suing the state of California to stop real progress from taking place. Recently, self-described "green" automakers Honda and Nissan joined other manufacturers and signed onto the lawsuit.

Vehicle emissions contribute to global warming. And the scientific community overwhelmingly agrees that global warming has already created more smog, increased asthma and infectious disease rates, and reduced the number and size of our fresh water sources.

Yet still the automakers are putting up a fight. Sign the petition below and tell the automakers to call off their lawyers and drop the lawsuit.
To the automakers:

I strongly urge you to drop your lawsuit to prevent California's pioneering global warming law from going into effect.

California has gotten tough on vehicle emissions because they contribute to global warming. And the scientific community overwhelmingly agrees that global warming poses a threat to the environment and public health. More smog, increased asthma and infectious disease rates, and dwindling fresh water sources are some the effects we're already seeing from global warming.

California's rule is backed by sound analysis, and technologies needed to meet its requirements are available today. I urge you to put your resources toward fighting global warming, instead of blocking my access to clean cars.

As I make my next vehicle purchase, I will pay particular attention to which automakers sued to block my access to cleaner vehicles. I look forward to hearing your response.

Sincerely,
