Tell Prime Minister Harper to Repeal the Indian Act

The Indian Act was originally designed to integrate First Nations Peoples of Canada into non-Native society, but it has allowed the Canadian government to have control over Native land and their way of life.

In recent years, the Indian Act has made it impossible for Native communities to grow economically and improve their lives. The Vancouver Sun reports that the Indian Act is known around the world as racist and demeaning.

While the Indian Act may have been relevant in the 1800s, it is no longer relevant today. Native communities need to have control over their land and have the right to make the choices that they believe are best for their people. The Indian Act puts the decision making power into the hands of people who know nothing about the communities or the people.

Tell the Harper government that the Indian Act has run its course and it is now time to repeal it.

We the undersigned sincerely ask the Harper government to repeal the Indian Act as it is no longer relevant in today’s society. The First Nations Peoples of Canada deserve to have control of what is rightfully theirs. They deserve to have the right and the capability to make decisions that impact them the most. They know what is best for their communities and shouldn’t have to get the government’s approval to develop their land.

Please show the First Nations Peoples and Canadians that you are a government that supports First Nations peoples and that you are looking out for their best interests by repealing this act.

Thank you.
