Let's Make Canada a Leader for Affordable AIDS Drugs

Canadian Parliament has the ability to pass Bill-C393, a proposal that would make Canada a leader in the production of affordable AIDS drugs for developing countries. The drug company, Apotex, has committed to producing and delivering the drug around the world as soon as the bill is passed.

The Bill was sponsored for and passed during a vote in 2009. Unfortunately, the sponsor resigned from parliament last year and the bill needs to be voted on again. A new sponsor needs to be elected unanimously by parliament before a vote can happen. This shouldn't be hard but members of the conservative party are doing everything they can to make it difficult to elect a new sponsor.

We need to urge conservatives to let Parliament vote on the bill. It is not right to prevent a fair vote by preventing a new sponsor for this bill. This is a monumental bill that has the support it needs within Parliament.

We are part way there but need to get a sponsor for the bill so that children in the developing world can receive affordable AIDS medication.
We the undersigned strongly urge you to respect Canadian democracy and allow a new sponsor to take on Bill-C393 so that the bill can receive a proper vote in Parliament.

This bill deserves to be considered within the democratic setting of Parliament because of the importance and impact it would have for people affected by AIDS.

Please do not compromise the health and well-being of people around the world before the bill can truly be considered.
