Make AIDS Drugs More Affordable for Children

  • by: Care2.com

2.3 million children under the age of 15 are infected with HIV.

In 2004, Parliament responded to this need by creating "Canada's Access to Medicines Regime" (CAMR) with the goal of getting affordable medicine to people in the developing world.

The initiative, as commendable as it is, is also severely flawed. But now there is a chance to change that!

Bill C-393 would make it easier to export life-saving AIDS drugs to developing countries. The drug company Apotex committed to producing and delivering the much-needed drugs as soon as the bill passes.

The bill is under review by the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, and it must be kept intact in order to be effective. After the review the bill will pass to the third and final reading and a vote will take place.

Canada could save the lives of thousands in need. Make a difference by applying pressure on Canadian parliamentarians to pass C-393.
Dear [Decision Maker]

More than half a million children die of AIDS every year.

Canada has the chance to be a world leader in providing life-saving medication to thousands in developing countries by passing Bill C-393.

Parliament's intentions were good when "Canada's Access to Medicines Regime" (CAMR) was created, but it has so far been ineffective. Bill C-393 is needed to stream-line CAMR and save lives.

I ask you to keep all of the core elements of the bill intact, a crucial part of making CAMR effective, and pass Bill C-393.

Sincerely,
