In July, a three-week-old beluga passed away -- a beluga that was fathered by a whale from the Vancouver Aquarium. This is SeaWorld's seventh death in nine years, which gives them a mortality rate of 50%.
All of them came from Vancouver Aquarium. These whales are all a part of an extensive breeding program (
outlined extensively in this Vancouver Observer piece) between the for-profit SeaWorld parks and the non-profit Vancouver Aquarium, which states its mission as being "dedicated to effecting the conservation of aquatic life through display and interpretation, education, research and direct action."
Vancouver could effectively end SeaWorld's breeding program by just withdrawing one of their whales or, even better, cutting ties altogether.
Please sign this petition asking Vancouver Aquarium to immediately cut ties with SeaWorld.
