10 Pollutants Going Down Your Drain

10 Pollutants Going Down Your Drain

If we want water coming in our taps to be clean, we need to make
sure that which goes down our drains is clean.

Here are ways you might be polluting the water from your drain
that you might not have thought about:

1. Disinfectant hand soap.

2. Hand dish detergent with artificial scents and dyes.

3. Automatic dish detergents that contain phosphates.

4. Hair dyes.

5. Solvents from washing paint brushes, rags with furniture polish, etc.

6. Hormones coming from the urine of women who are on birth control pills.

7. Toxic cleaning product residues from everything from bathtub and shower stall cleaners, to sponges rinsed after use on oven cleaner.

8. Toxic dyes from fabrics that “bleed.”

9. Pesticides from washing plants that have been sprayed.

10. Hormone disrupters from bodycare products, such as those that contain paraben preservatives.

Thank you so much for this article. It's always been amazing to me that people think they are actually washing something "away" - as in disappearing forever - when it's actually just put in another place, until eventually it ends up in our water tables, lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans.
The only way I can see to stop destroying our Earth with pollution of any kind is to educate people, so that they realize the direct link from the chemicals they buy and use and the poisons in their food, water and air. "Buy" is the operative word here.
Stop buying poisons!

After my biology course informed me that some male frogs (don't remember the species) are growing eggs instead of having normal testicles from us human women using birth control and of course using the bathroom, my world view on how much harm we're doing flipped to the extreme. Now I've got even more to feel guilty about after seeing this. Time to start looking to more natural alternatives!

I have been using products made by the Melaleuca company for several years. made in the USA, and very good products for cleaning your house and your body.Laundry products are great and actually get your clothes clean and do not polute. I have not found a bad product yet. You will not find these in the stores. Order them on line.
