Sarah, TX asks:

Could you give me a recipe for a good hydrating mask for excessively dry skin?

Annie:

I find that aloe vera gel is about the most hydrating plant you can use on your skin, and it is very healing. Just pat it on. When I first did this, my skin seemed to ask for more and more aloe vera gel for a few days, and then applying it just once a day was sufficient. To make the aloe more lubricating, add about 1/4 the amount of pure vegetable glycerin.

HI! I have a couple of moisturizers on Care2 that are easy to make. The first one adds vegetable glycerin to aloe ( http://www.care2.com/greenliving/soft-and-silky-moisturizer-formula.html ), and the other takes a bit more time but is really excellent:

are there any mud packs for men with dry skin or is this a women only issue. I am beginning to get blotches on my face of dead skin and I think it is going to get worse with global warming even living near the coast in San Diego

Linda Sy is a great skin company for people with severe dry skin and other skin conditions. This is my favorite product:

My skin is so dry that it actually produces SO much excessive oil if left untamed. What really helps me is to before bed, steam over a bowl of hot water with a few drops of tea tree oil for about 20 mins. Then apply a thin layer of castor oil. Castor oil is thick and goopy but surprisingly it keeps my pores open and not clogged. My skin is soft and supple in the morning!
