Lighten Age Spots Naturally

Hi Annie, I came across your column and am happy to say that over a period of time I have successfully implemented your remedies at home with minimal cost and good results. I have a question for you. I am 25 years old but due to past excessive exposure to sun I have developed brown spots on my face and have started developing wrinkles around my eyes. I am wondering if you have a remedy for it which is made up of natural products?

–Monica, CA

Brown spots—age spots or liver spots they are sometimes called—are the result of sun exposure. In researching my book Better Basics for the Home: Simple Solutions for Less Toxic Living, I saw certain ingredients used over and over again for this problem. The ingredients include vitamin E, aloe vera gel, fruit acids such as lemon juice and organic apply cider vinegar, enzymes such as papaya and pineapple, witch hazel, and horseradish mixed with lemon juice, or milk. I’ve seen my age spots significantly diminish over a number of months using lemon juice as an astringent and an aloe vera gel and glycerin moisturizer (3/4 parts aloe vera gel, 1/4 part natural vegetable glycerin).

Hi Annie,
I have developed blotchy sign spots on my face over the past few years, therefore I have been looking for some natural care remedies and came across many who say that Aloe Vera Gel/Juice is good for clearing the spots. I am going to try your formula but I am unsure of what I should use to clean the skin prior to using the lemon juice astrigent and aloe/vegatable glycerin moisturizer.

HI,
Regarding the lemon juice or other acids, just use that on the skin direclty, straight. Let stay on the skin for as long as you can before rinsing. Yes, frozen, reconstituted lemon juice will be fine. Vegetable glycerine is found in the health food store. Regarding complex skin pigmentation, my suggestion is to try it for a few months and see what happens!

This sounds great. I love that I can just go pick a lemon from my tree instead of spending big bucks on some chemical formula from the drugstore.

I have dark marks left from acne. Would lemon juice help to lighten these as well?

I have a large "brown pigmented" are on my face that started out 30 years ago about the size of a "BB". Now it is the size of a dime. No raised areas, just darkened skin. What it the concoction in relation to ratio of lemon juice, etc. that is used to make the prepration for applying to the skin?

Will regular lemon juice (reconstituted) from a bottle work?

Barbara Rader

where do you get the natural vegetable glycern. And how do you use it with the aloe vera and where does the lemon juice come it to play?

Conni M.

This sounds very simple..I will try it. I have some freckles on my face but I have developed one larger age spot that really bothers me! Thanks for your great ideas. Conni 07-10-07
