It’s no surprise to most people that cell phones emit radiation. Technically, it is known as low-level radio frequency or RF which is similar to that emitted by microwaves. And, you may recall the warning labels on microwaves that instruct people not to stand too close to microwaves while they are running.
Research showing that cell phone use can be linked to brain cancer is conflicting. There is sufficient data to show that cell phone use affects brain activity and brain glucose levels after use. And last year the World Health Organization declared cell phone radiation to be a potential carcinogen. So there is definitely enough cause for concern.
While the scientists battle it out in the laboratories, here are 14 ways you can reduce your exposure to cell phone radiation:
1. Go old school. Use a land line as much as possible.
2. If you must use a cell phone, use it infrequently and keep calls short. If your BFF really is your best friend forever she or he will understand.
3. Use the speaker phone on a cell phone to keep the device further away from your head. You’ll still be exposed to some radiation but it reduces the amount near your head.
4. Use earbuds with your cell phone if possible. Again, this is to keep the cell phone farther away from your head.
5. Choose a phone that emits less radiation. More manufacturers are becoming conscious of the health risks and attempting to manufacture lower radiation models. A Google search can help you identify one the next time you are in the market for a cell phone.

7. Choose natural supplements known to reduce cell damage from radiation like alpha lipoic acid and vitamins C and E.
8. Eat more seaweed. Seaweed is nature’s anti-radiation remedy.
9. Use a protective phone case that reduces radiation exposure. Some are available at pongresearch.com.
10. Give it a rest. Do you really need to be on the phone or texting so much? Of course not. So, give yourself a break and turn it off.
11. Keep the phone away from your bed. Sleeping with the phone near your head, such as on your night stand, can expose you to radiation for long periods of time.
12. Don’t put it in your pocket. If you must, keep the phone’s antenna (usually on the back of the phone) facing away from your body.
13. Watch the signal strength. When the signal strength is weak the phone will emit MORE radiation in an attempt to communicate with the cell tower.
14. Use a holster and belt clip. While they are not perfect, they do provide a barrier to reduce exposure.
