Hyacinth Macaw
The hyacinth macaw’s beauty is neither understated nor undersized: this bird, which makes its home in central and eastern South Africa, is the largest species of flying parrot in the world. Although these macaws are at the top of their food chain—with no known natural predators—they find themselves on the endangered species list, due to caged-bird trade and habitat loss.

Lovely! Having a lifelong interest in exotic birds, I was having fun identifying each bird before I read the caption underneath, but the Dusky Lory stumped me. (OK, I knew it was a lory, because I have a book on the parrots of the world, but I forgot which one.)
I know why flamingos stand on one leg. Most birds do this to sleep or rest, and their leg muscles automatically lock into position, which prevents them from falling if they really relax.
