1. The Tapeworm Diet

How’s this for the perfect diet: eat as much as you want and still lose weight! Oh, the downside? Yeah, that includes swallowing a tapeworm, a parasite that feeds off of your nutrients. You’ll probably shed pounds, sure, but you’ll also be losing vital nutrients, potentially develop brain damage or even die. You can actually gain weight, too, if the tapeworm gets big enough. They can grow up to 30 feet. Ew!

2. The Sleeping Beauty Diet

You can’t eat when you’re asleep, right? Elvis Presley was a fan of this diet, where you are heavily sedated for several days in order to “sleep off” weight. This will certainly be effective in terms of pure weight loss, but in terms of health, yeah, not so much.

3. The HCG Diet

HCG, or†human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone that the body naturally produces during pregnancy. Followers of the diet stick to a 500-600 calorie/day meal plan and give themselves injections, typically in the thigh, once a day. The diet plan was popularized in the 1950s, but is currently seeing an upswing in popularity. Critics say that the huge weight loss seen in patients has more to do with the extremely restrictive diet, not with HCG’s supposed appetite-suppressing properties.

4. The Chewing Diet

You can enjoy all the food you want as long as you don’t swallow it. Throw hygiene out the window and chew your food 30-80 times for each bite before spitting it out. Forget about those essential vitamins and minerals!

5. The Baby Food Diet

Popular with celebrities, the baby food diet consists of, well, adults eating food meant for babies without teeth. Eat up to 14 jars a day of pureed carrots or peas. How can you resist?!

I just eat a healthy and balanced normal diet and get plenty of exercise. That photo of the limp pizza really looks grim. Would rather make my own than eat that frightening thing. Extremes in diet doesn't help anyone.

Yeah, these are ridiculous. People are willing to do some pretty stupid things to lose weight, I guess. I'd also like to point out that none of these are permanent solutions. Sure, you might lose weight by following these, but my bet says you won't be able to keep it off, and you sure as hell won't be healthy.

For goodness sakes! Eat more veg than carbs or proteins. Eat loads and loads of beautiful, colorful veg and see the difference almost immediately. You won't be hungry and you body will thank you. Make your stomach work for a living. :0
