5. Ghee

If you’re unfamiliar with ghee, it’s clarified butter often used in Indian cooking. Ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter in a pot until all water has boiled off, the milk solids have settled to the bottom, and the “junk” has floated to the top. According to Dr. Vasant Lad, director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, N.M., traditionally, ghee has been used to promote memory, intelligence, and digestion. Modern science tells us that ghee bolsters the immune system as well. Try this kitchari recipe.

(con't) I, also, think, sometimes, if the results end up being factual, it is just due to luck or coincidence. Maybe I have just become more skeptical, (which I believe is healthy) after reading a abundance of different papers and articles, over the last few years, as well as, learning a great deal about the politics involved in research.

There have been a few lab rat studies indicating a reduction in cholesterol, with the use of ghee--difficult to believe, but possible, I guess. It is still 100% saturated fat. Remember, not that many years ago, saturated fats were taboo. Now, they are not considered so bad, even beneficial as in coconut oil, which is actually encouraged to consume frequently. People seem to jump on the latest trends with a gusto that belies common sense. What was once bad is now a miracle food to many. Who's to say in a few years from now, whether they will reverse this advice to that of the past. I would stick to the suggestion to not consume more than 10% of any saturated fat, certainly, not to indulge the ingestion. I have been caught up in the frenzy, somewhat myself, and I believe use to much of it for cooking. Many of the other suggested uses are probably worthwhile.

I am not certain how I feel, nowadays, about a lot of animal study results. After all, we are not rats, and our dissimilarities can make a considerable difference in how a food/product/test affects us humans. I guess I am, also, tired of using animals for everything, esp. when I hear of all the many test conclusions that are wrong, suppressed, unpublished, misinterpreted, contradictory, inaccurate, or don't arrive at any conclusion, at all. In addition, many studies are poorly conducted, for many reasons. I, also, think, sometimes, if the results end up being factual, it is just due to luck or coincidence. Ma

Thank you for the info! But...I stopped eating so much grapefruit, as soon I was informed that it increases the risk for breast cancer.

Outside of the grapefruit, I'd call this article 7 super foods you've probably never heard of, probably aren't eating, and probably never will! They're not that easy to find and expensive when you do. Certainly there are other super foods more affordable and more readily available.
