I love chocolate just as much as any girl, but I never, not even once, considered using it as a facial treatment. Oh yes ladies, you read that right! No longer is chocolate just good for soothing our bad moods or getting rid of that ever-present sweet tooth that always seems to crop up after dinner, but it is now being put to use on our skin.
You see, chocolate is made from cocoa beans, a great source of polyphenols, which happen to have beneficial antioxidant properties.
On top of that, chocolate also contains some healthy fats such as shea and cocoa butters, which help to moisturize our skin while also packing a big anti-inflammatory punch.
Maybe that’s why spas all around the country are starting to offer their customers luxurious chocolate facials.
However, if you would rather save the money on expensive spa treatments, then keep reading, because I’m going to teach you how to make your own chocolate face mask at home.
Chocolate: It’s Not Just For Late Night Snacking Anymore
If you find your skin is feeling a little dry, is irritated, or could just use a touch of pampering, simply combine:
- 1/3 cup of dark cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup organic honey
- 3 tablespoons of heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of powdered oatmeal
Mix all your ingredients together until you have a nice paste, then evenly apply it to your face and let the mask sit and soak into your skin for up to 15 minutes.
And don’t worry, I won’t judge you if you taste your mask before applying it to your face. I would be lying if I said I didn’t do it myself.
After your 15 minutes is up, simply rinse your face off with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Your skin should feel extremely soft and smooth, but if you feel as though you still need a little bit more moisture, feel free to apply half the amount of your usual moisturizer, or your favorite anti-aging serum.
Et voila! A DIY face mask that is so tasty it may just double as a quick little snack.
