A Nautical Twist for a Toilet Roll Holder

If there’s one thing we know by now, it’s that when it comes to creative ways to tie up the bath TP, the possibilities are endless. There’s the branch, the string, the modified wire hanger and now, for coastal dwellers: a nautical cleat as an improvised roll holder. Here’s how to create your own.

Above: Southern California-based Laurie Downey of Projects by Laurie fashioned the TP holder in a friend’s remodel.

Above: Cut a PVC Pipe, to about 4 1/2 inches for a standard US size roll.

Above: Thread White Braided Poly Rope through the PVC and TP roll together and tie it all up.

Above: Tie it all up to a vintage cleat.

Above: The finished piece lends a nautical appeal to the bath.

OK - to make things easier: tie a loop in each end of a short line and slip them over the whole cleat. Or tie a loop in one end, slip that over, and cleat the other end: it only takes one figure 8 to cleat a line, not that thick pile of them. Or if the cleat has a hole in the middle, tie one end of the line through that, freeing up the rest of the cleat for that once around figure 8.
(Even better would be to make two eye splices....but if you sail, you know that!)

I agree with the commenters about changing the roll -- this is a cute idea but entirely impractical!
