Last week Adam Yauch (also known as MCA) of the Beastie Boys died at age 47 after a three-year battle with cancer. For some it was simply the passing of a musician, or a component of a wildly successful rap trio, for others it was unexpectedly devastating and signaled the untimely demise of an expression of our collective youth. The Beastie Boys were capricious, sly, innovative, expressive, and a hell of a lot of fun, and many of you in the 25 to 50 age range will, no doubt, associate their verve and energy with a piece of your early life.
Sad as it is, the Beasties embodied fun and vitality over sentimentality. So as a fitting tribute to the fallen MCA, here are the fine characters of Richard Scarry’s Busytown and a few of the main players on Sesame Street doing their version of the 1992 Beastie Boys classic “Sure Shot.” Here is something to make you smile:
