Afford Your Dreams with Salvage

Our green kitchen would have cost about $60,000 new, but we bought it for $3,000 with the help of an architectural salvage expert. Not only were we able to equip the house with a gorgeous Smallbone of Devises kitchen of unaffordable dreams, but we found reuse/salvage to be a win/win for everyone, including the Earth. Here is a long listing of URLs of salvage yards, reuse stores and architectural salvage shops in the United States so you can give reuse a try!

Look up architectural salvage stores local to you on this resource list from Redux: Designs that Resuse, Recycle, and Reveal by Jennifer Roberts (Gibbs Smith Publisher, 2005). If you live outside of the United States go to Google and put “architectural salvage” along with your location, into the search.

I've seen a couple beautiful salvage built homes. One was hay-bale construction and absolutely gorgeous.

Whoohoo! Great resource list! While we are already fans of the Habitat for Humanity store, this is full of some great new ideas! You just have to be a little more creative on a budget, but can still find quality materials for your remodeling work. Thanks Annie!
