Are Bananas as Bad For You as Cookies?

Are Bananas as Bad For You as Cookies?

Could bananas be just as bad for you as cookies? In terms of satisfying hunger, the surprising answer is yes. They both rank low on the satiety scale, while having a higher glycemic index (meaning hunger and a “sugar crash” are quicker to follow). When foods have a low glycemic index, they generally make you feel satisfied longer and minimize overeating.

Bananas, however, and all whole fruits, generally have more fiber, potassium and other beneficial nutrients than cookies. Because bananas are relatively higher on the glycemic index, they make a great post-workout snack when your body is craving quick energy and is primed to absorb nutrients.

When looking to satisfy hunger and keep a sustained amount of energy, the following infographic may prove helpful. The bottom line, according to the chart: “If you’re hungry, don’t grab a cookie. Or a banana. Try an orange or an apple.”

The writer of this blog post should be ashamed of herself. This type of trolling for readers is simply unethical. Grow up.
Education of food and calorie intake should not be reduced to sensational statements that are misleading. Not all calories are equal and the danger is that some readers will read this post and draw immediate conclusions to have fries or a cookie instead of a banana.
Shame on you.

I long ago decided to live my live for quality not quantity. I don't want to live to be a 100. I'd rather enjoy my life then live it with the idea I'm going to live till I'm old. Funny how you see more really skinny seniors in nursing homes while those moderately overweight are living out on their own.

Cookies are not bad. :-P I will always choose a cookie over a banana.
