I wish I could be enjoying the tomato seedlings lovingly growing from heirloom seed and set out 24 May this year. July was literally a 'wash-out' of rain and very little sunshine here in SW Ontario, Canada. I AM adding lush basil leaves to everything I prepare - usually I'd have red rosy tomatoes to go with the basil but not this year.

Yes, do serve traditional food but maybe add a tabbouleh salad and a platter of colourful vegetable kabobs. You may have takers! Enjoy your Independence Day barbeques! I'm Canadian and we celebrated the birth of our country, Canada Day last weekend. Have fun and bon appetit!
