Baking soda is an essential part of any home remedy kit. It can be used to ease heartburn, as a salve for insect bites, a soak for itchy skin and even to help cure urinary tract infections.
This baking soda remedy for heartburn is used by my dad, who has suffered with uncomfortable indigestion for years. Until he discovered this remedy, he took either prescription medicine or daily doses of over-the-counter stuff. Now, he needs to treat his heartburn only once or twice a week.
Heartburn Remedy
Dissolve a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar into 1 tablespoon of warm water. Add a 1/2 cup of cold water. Then add a 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1 tablespoon vinegar and a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Stir the mixture, then drink the whole thing quickly, while it’s fizzing.
Insect Bites & Itchy Skin Remedy
For insect bites, make a paste out of baking soda and water, and apply as a salve onto affected skin. To ease the itchies, shake some baking soda into your hand and rub it into damp skin after bath or shower.
Remedy for Urinary Tract Infection
Cranberry juice is a great natural treatment for urinary tract infection, but if you buy it in the grocery store, it can be loaded with sugar. Here’s an alternative, less sugary treatment for urinary tract infection using baking soda. At first symptoms, mix a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda into an 8-ounce glass of water. Drink the remedy once per day.

Stop drinking coffee or tea and eating in the evenings and change to eating as much raw vegetarian foods as you can and heartburn and reflux will go away. Caffiene paralyzes the sphincter muscle of that prevents acid from coming up the esophagus. Also most heartburn is not caused from too much acid but on the contrary too little. As we age we don't produce enough and if you mix some vinegar in water and drink it when you have heartburn and get better you will know low acid is your problem. Notice I did say most, I did not say all.

I had a severe bout with acid reflux a few years back, started on the purple pill, and knew instinctively that I needed a more natural solution. After some research and for 6 months I was absolutely commited to increasing vegetables in my daily diet, and taking 500 milligrams of glutamine along with vitamin B6 and 500milligrams of vitamin C. I also took juice plus for 1 1/2 years after that, and apparently it significantly increased my vitamin B complex intake, I currently take enzyme supplements to digest fats as I had a gallbladder removed over 10 years ago, and this all seems to help. I have not had any problems since I manage my diet and supplements. It worked very well, glutamine helps muscles recover, apparently many athletes use this substance, I recommend doing the research and figuring out what works for you.

I agree about NOT ingesting baking soda. Doctors have told me the same thing. It tasted awful when I used it in a pinch, and the relief I got was so temporary that I knew it wasn't worth it. I'm very glad that I never tried that stuff again. And, it seems like it should be obvious that it could cause a lot of health issues with kidneys, since it has such a high sodium content. If you're suffering frequent heartburn, like GERD, you would be far better off if you find out what foods are bothering you. After I found out what my food sensitivities and allergies were, I have a lot fewer incidences of heartburn, and what little I get now isn't too serious. I found that if I take my antihistamine if the heartburn is bad enough to last more than a few fleeting minutes that it will take care of the breakthrough heartburn. And, now days, I rarely have to do this anymore either. Those food sensitivities and allergies are your body's message that something is wrong. It's an immune response to something your body is allergic to. It's better to avoid the food you're allergic to than to end up with even more serious long-term health problems on down the road.
