We showed you the ultimate gas saver: the human-powered car. If you are not into that level of exercise but still want to help reduce petroleum imports, maybe a minicar is the answer.
The recent International Microcar/Minicar World Meet showcased more than 400 of them from around the world, going back many decades. This video shows a few of them. Of the Crosley, sold in the United States after World War II, it was said that you got into one with a shoe horn and out with a can opener.
Are we so comfortable with our gigantic gas guzzlers that we fail to recognize that “small is beautiful”?

Neat.
Cute but safety first
Yes the real solution is full sized electric cars like Project Better Place or something like "grease" cars (diesels using recycled fryer grease,- I drove one, it was awesome, a VW Jetta) or a combination of diesel electric hybrid. I am more for electric made from renewable sources, solar, wind, ocean wave generated.
Very funny article, enjoy.
In my opinion, it's just time to embrace a new paradigm, and invest in the manufacture and infrastructure to support an electric car industry.
Are small cars safe though?
I love, love, love tiny cars! I would like to own a Smart car but will just stick to my bike for now.
Small cars are awesome.
I was in an accident with my Toyota Echo a few weeks ago, I loved the car and after it was hit directly on the driver's side totaling it I got out with only a few bruises. Suprisingly safe! If Toyota hadn't stopped making them before the gas prices went to $4 a few years ago they probably would have taken over the auto industry with their relatively low price and excellent gas mileage. It was ahead of it's time.
