In our age of eating disorders and soul-hunger, this simple, profound blessing helps to put food and eating into a healed perspective. May this blessing bring you to a place of mindfulness with every bite of food you take.

Buddhist Blessing for Food

Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space
combine to make this food.
Numberless beings gave their lives
and labors that we may eat.
May we be nourished
that we may nourish life.

Here's the pagan blessing we share at the beginning of every meal (the first half is traditional, the second half my creation for our family and all food sharing):

By the Earth that is Her Body,
By the Air that is Her Sweet Breath,
By the Fire of Her Bright Spirit,
And the Waters of Her Living Womb...

We give thanks to the Land
and all helping hands,
To the Birds that sing
over all growing things,
To the Sun that shines
so that all may dine,
And the Rain that caresses
the plants that here bless us.

Absolutely beautiful and profound message- as a buddhist thankyou! Things are much more infinately richer and deeper in meaning than they appear to us, and food is the fuel of life that allows us to remain at peace and absorb the life we are privelidged to have.

Thank you , We learn new things every day , for us who only looked at food as food when it is so much more ,

when we commence eating we must also say I eat to keep the life in this body going so that my thoughts are loftier and peaceful.I need to keep the flame of life through the nourished body with the aim of blending my soul with universal consciousness and so I take this morsel.

Wonder prayer, and a compliment to the practice of honoring the people whose work put this food in front of us.

This is along the same lines of a blessing my boyfriend and I say.... our goes... Please raise the vibrations of our food to be most beneficial for our total beings. Thank you earth for creating this food and for the opportunity to enjoy this delicious meal.

The blessings in our life are abundant, recognizing them is divine. Bring in the energy and love that good healthy food provides. Eating less means creating a longer life and avoiding common health imbalances plagueing our brothers and sisters on this Earth. Make a beautiful day...Namaste

This reminds me that in addition to chosing wholesome foods, we can also choose to eat less. Eating less seems to be an option we forget...yet with gratitude, less does indeed become more, and WE become less~~stuffed, overweight, and slow! Beautiful reminders... Robin www.BeWhoYouAre.com
